Have you bought a domain yet?

For a basic site, most website hosts offer a free online 'site-builder' nowadays when you buy a hosting package.

Personally, I like www.one.com in terms of templates and instant blogs they offer.

If you want to get a bit more advanced, have a look at www.templatemonster.com.

You will need dreamweaver, flash and photoshop to get going on this level.

not got a domain yet but the one im looking for is avail
will look at sites above thanks

would you like it virtually done for you (ie you supply menu / page info) and run from a template you can edit? Or are you looking for something flashy?

Whatever... dont pay from someone like template monster.

Are you using your own domain? (costs £6 for 2 years)

A total novice cannot set up a ecommerce website if thats what you mean.

If you just wanna bung some pics up, why not buy a domain, and point it at your fickr account or similar? No hosting charges, no website to design and commission.

Just a thought.

Try www.moonfruit.com, free domain name, free hosting and an easy to use website builder. Even I could use it!

Well in all seriousness what the hell did you expect?

What I posted was actually the slightly more friendly/useful version of what I could have posted.

You can have the white knights jumping in to help, but the fact is, if you do it yourself, it'll look crap, amateurish and in a business sense, you will look worse WITH the site, than without.

Can you not set up a free hosting site, using the built in layouts, or even myspace

had you actually took the time to read the post it does say the site isto promote my dogs/puppies not sell them!!
no hate well not much just stupidity on your part vibeone

is for my dogs as when i am selling my puppies

wut?

so you want people just to see pictures of your dogs.

How I am reading it is that you want people to see pictures of your dogs...and then for them to express interest in buying them

Let me try again, this time in the knowledge I'm dealing with "one of them"...

You want a website, 3/4 pages with text, few pictures, contact details?

You can:

1) Buy a template, mess around with it in dreamweaver's WYSIWYG editor, and probably get something that looks ok, but like a template
2) You can use a online website generator, for example 123-reg's, which will look poor, and exactly the same as 1000's of other sites using the same template
3) You can pay either a reasonable amount, or a lot, to get someone to produce a decent looking site.

ok guys lets start again for those who need me to explain,
what i want to do is have a site where, when i have puppies and have taken deposits from new owners, i can then say here's my website have a look and it'll keep you updated on progress of the puppies.
i don't have to advertise on the web to sell my pups i am an accredted breeder with the kc.
is that clearer?

So basically a photo gallery? Or something more? Seriously, the opening VB1 post does sound like its what you can use!

Or have a look at "Menalto Gallery"

couldnt you just show them on photobucket or somewhere like that, make an account with what name you think is good, and then make it puplic

sorry if that a dim wit idea

yep much, I'm going to leave now as I cant actually help you with setting up a site but good luck

If you are looking for a page you can update regularly, as the puppies get older, then Flikr or some sort of blog would be by far the easiest way to go. As Vibeone suggests, you can just forward a paid for domain to your blog/flikr album and it will look fine. You should be able to group the photos into sections, such as; 1 month/3 months/6 months etc

You could have a website but maintaining it and updating it will be a lot more of a pain than using Flikr or some form of free blog. It will probably be a lot easier for your customers to navigate around also so they can see your puppies.

firstly, i'm not one of them
secondly would this not have been a nicer response the first time?

Its basically a carbon effing copy of my first post!

Everyone else got what I meant, seemingly people agree with me, but it was my PERSONAL OPINION of a good solution.

Seriously, heres a special VB1 amnesty - go back, read my first post, and even my second, and admit I said nothing at all out of turn. In return, I'll say no more about it.

It wasn't an olive branch, and I don't have any manners.

Apology accepted.

Jack's comments are right, but like I said, a crap website looks worse than no website at all, and its difficult for a novice to make a website that looks good.

I think as already suggested a blog (free) is plenty.
You don't neccessarily need your own domain as it'll be a blog name.
As you've said people will already know the puppies are available and you can send them to the blog for pics and updates.
No costs and simples.

I only gave advice and no one shot you down in flames. For some reason you ignored everything that was said and decided to abuse vb1 who (for once!) was being helpful.

Or have I missunderstood something?

Anyway, good luck with what you want to do.

I too think a blog will be best for what you want to do, and btw novices can make professional looking websites, it just depends on how bad they want it
