I am trying to find reviews on this, what are the xtras like are they in HD?

I would say it would be pretty hard to call a better transfer on the Pixar movies, they're all pixel perfect to the original source. I've found Cars to be the best perhaps because it's the brightest and shiniest of them all.

the reason for no real reviews is because it doesnt come out in America for another month, so we have it first.

I'd also like to hear peoples opinions on the extras?

The extras:

there are loads of them, the toy story 3 previews aren't anything new and this dissapointed a little.
All the extras are there from the tenth anniversary edition dvd. So you get all the trailers, outtakes and short promos from around the world. Info on how the characters took shape, and loads fo others
Now there is loads of new blu ray exclusive ones too, these are mostly docs about looking back by the directors etc. theres one on the macys thanksgiving parade where they have a giant inflatable buzz lightyear. A doc on the toy story original pitched edition that went wrong, a couple of basically animated shorts from inside pixar studio stories.

I've not had chance to watch them all, as there are too many.

I have posted this quickly, later on when my little one is in bed, I will post a more in depth mini review.

might sound silly, but is there really that much difference between upscaled dvd & blu-ray for animation compared to a real life film?

animations are the best blu rays mate, i personally own a lot of blu rays and the best picture wise so far have to be the likes of monsters ink, up, wall-e, cars, they are unbelievable.

but have you actually seen them on dvd with the same setup? My point being that upscaling guesstimates the missing pixels which will probably be bang on for an animation imo.

i have got toy story 1 on dvd so when i receive the blu rays ill check them both out and let you know mate. but im almost 100% certain it will be better

i did have pinocchio on dvd

http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/5213/Pinocchio-Special-Edition/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0&&_$ja=tsid:11518|cc:|prd:5213|cat:Movie+%3E+DVD+%3E+Classics

then i bought this that came out a few months back

and the difference was easy to see, the blu ray is immense.

I downloaded Toy Story on Blu Ray and can confirm it is vastly improved over the DVD which looked good upscaled anyway. The real benefit of animation in HD is not so much the resolution (though it is a lot sharper) it is the oft unmentioned accurate colour reproduction that swings it. The colour of HD is so much more vibrant and well... colourful!

I have Monsters Inc on DVD and Blu-Ray and tried them on the same setup with DVD Upscaling and although the upsacling is very good the Blu ray is crystal in comparison.

With upscaling the picture tends to have that interpolated feel to it, the colours are can be a little wishy washy in parts and small amounts of fluctuating artifacting can be seen in very dark scenes.

The detail on the Blu ray is very apparent, each strand of Sulleys fur can be seen very clearly even in fast action scenes.

If the Toy story transfer is any where near as good I will be more than happy
