----Traders to avoid---- ??????

Couple of questions,
If these traders are banned, then surely that solves the problem.
If they are scammers, they won't use the same name or email address, so how could anybody 'avoid' them?

How about doing something to the FS / FT board so that you can't post a new topic without some kind of clearance from a moderator? That way a moderator gets all the relevant info before a poster can post, they could do a very quick check on the info provided by the poster, but it would still be up to the buyer to check the seller out properly.

Dambuster do you know how long that would take mate ? ;-)

good idea mate but a bit inpractical

Banning does not solve any problems. It just results in people coming back under better pseudonyms, fake email, fake usernames etc. Educating members is how we prevent scams from happening. You know this is where I have disagreed with you in the past and it is still my position. Top down approaches do not end scams, teaching people how to spot a spam and trade responsibly does.

Yep thats the way we all can help everyone on HUKD by spotting fakes and reporting them, not letting them through the net

that sort of thing.

i think a lot of the time ppl who are scammed just walk away to easily. i refuse to..not for the money..it was only 17 pound. but just for the fact that they know/think they can get away with it. most of the time it is hard to track them down...but if you at least try..sometimes you can at least help prevent them doing it again. by educating other ppl.

Yes Admin, As I have also said in the past this is your website and people are being scammed on it.
You can only 'teach' people if they want to be taught. Most of the regulars can now spot a scam, but it's the ones that can't and for some reason don't read the warnings.
Maybe if the warnings/Guidelines could be in RED and the moderators remove their sig when they post that warning/Guideline that would make their post stand out more.

I agree wholeheartedly

Dambuster, not to russtle your feathers but i think you are blaming the wrong person here. It doenst matter what Admin does to protect members, at the end of the day its their own choice. as it was mine, i saw the other scams, i wasnt 100% comfortable after seeing the other scams, yet i still gambled with buying from a scammer. It was my own fault. I dont deserve it, but i cant blame anyone else for doing it. He did it to 3 other people. We all read the warnings, saw the other scams. It is like everyone everywhere, we cant say YOU ARE A SCAMMER, we usually dont know until its to late. Its up to the buyer to do the checks, phone them, check phonebook, emails, make sure everything adds up. and if it still goes wrong, use those details to catch the *******. Admin and the mods do all they can, its like any criminals, they always find a way. Look at the Law, they have all these laws etc to stop us comiting crimes, but there are ppl who still do it. anyway i for one think admin and mods have a hard job, they cant please everyone, they do their best, and i aint arse licking. its just how i feel.

is an ip ban practical??

Taz,
I'm not blaming anybody but the scammer/thief.
Sorry if I gave the impression that I blame Admin or the Moderators. I don't.

Well the only reason we don't use red is that a whole post in red can be a bit hard on the eyes for some users, it hurts my eyes to read it and I don't wear glasses either. Hence the maroon colour it currently is.

Fair enough, how about BLUE?
Something to make it stand out a bit more. Maroon is a nondescript colour and in my humble opinion does not make that post look as important as it needs to be.

Blue is my favourite colour and wouldn't want to use that. Maroon shows up very well I think ;-)

Blue is my favourite colour also. :-D

If 'Maroon shows up very well', what's going wrong then?
#14
It's nothing to do with the colour Dambuster, the "awareness" posts are noticed by everyone that chooses to notice them ;-)

There will always be people who are wanting to break the law. It has nothing to do with the warnings etc, what you dont see is how many people have NOT been scammed due to the warnings. Im sure it will put a few questions in to Peoples heads.
#16
I agree Taz, ebay have far better warnings etc and people still ignore them.

I just feel sorry for all the people that get scammed on here and I wish more could be done, but what else can you do?

Exactly, nothing can be done.

I was scammed, and although i doubt i will get the money back, i still dont want to just leave it. As he needs to understand what hes done. He is 17 and is completly unawear that he has broke the law.

Its like paypal too, they have a good system, but still because it also has to be open for people to use. it gets abused. scammers having 3 or 4 accounts so when ppl make claims, they dont get their money back and the scammer doesnt care that the account is froze cos they have about 4 more to scam ppl with.
#19
I think one thing should be added to the WARNING...only buy from verified paypal members...as it does matter if THOSE accounts get froze..unless they have 3 bank accounts which is also very easily done...ah well...always a way round it...
#20
It's not that easy to open multiple bank accounts now, but getting your account 'verified' is also not that easy. That's down to the credit card provider not paypal.
#21
well maybe thats one to add to the warning.

how do you check if a member is verified before buying tho.

Start a paypal payment to them and it will show on the second step I think. You don't have to complete the payment, just cancel it then.

excelent. any chance this can be added to the warning then. wether ppl take note or not is a different matter. but if it stops one person being scammed its worth it eh.

Thanks for that

Deffinatly be using that, i feel i can trust verified paypal members just for the fact that its not easy to do it twice.
#24
We can add that to the "awareness" notice tazandsaz :) Thanks for your constructive comments.
#25
Great, thanks Rayman. No probs

Not all Paypal accounts can be verified. That is down to the Credit Card provider as well.
The next safest option is to fully fund the Paypal payment with a Credit Card that will chargeback Paypal.

I'm sorry rayman that my posts aren't constructive. I'm just trying to help.
#27
So sorry Dambuster! Thanks for your constructive posts also ;-)
#28
No problems rayman. ;-)

Also make sure the sellers address is confirmed:-
What is a Confirmed Address?
A buyer's Confirmed Address is checked against the credit card billing address maintained by the buyer's credit card company, or is verified by PayPal through an alternative process. Because Confirmed Addresses must be in the name of the account holder, Gift Addresses can never be confirmed.

Protection Policies

How can I tell if an address is Confirmed?

If an address is Confirmed, the address status will display as 'Confirmed' on payment receipts and on the Transaction Details page.
