Trading in a banned Xbox 360 at Game

Hey all

I've gotta banned 360, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if they would check for this if I tried to trade it in at Game. Anyone managed to get away with this?

Cheers!

im no expert but my best mate (who has 2 xboxes) tried to a do a sneaky and trade his banned 360 (plus a wii and cash) for a ps3 bundle and they checked everything out on the 360 and turned it away.
so he sold it on ebay as a "special" console ;) but heh u maybe lucky.

Depends if the person testing can be bothered to try it out online. Maybe they only try if there's a valid gamertag with XBL enabled on it? Otherwise they'd have to signup just to test it..

So you may get away with it, you may not.. but ask yourself - If you went into Game to buy a 2nd hand Xbox, got one and took it home only to find the thing had been banned - would you be pi**ed off? If you would, maybe think about screwing someone over before you trade it in. I'm not fond of Game at all so have no qualms with you getting one over on them but you'll be causing the future owner of your console grief if you trade it in.

In short, just sell it on ebay or here as "banned".

Would you be peed off or would you just take it back and ask for one that is not banned/modded?!?!

having to take it back and swap it would p**s me off, yeah they will swap it but its still hassle for whoever buys it!

When trading in consoles to Game/Gamestation or Where ever they ask for your contact details, I would assume it is in the event of a product not working i.e banned console or the consoles fails after 20mins etc

So the persons would be liable for supplying faulty goods.

Company's may do this but im not sure.

IMO it is very dishonest i wouldn't be a happy camper to find out the console was banned from playing online

I'd most definitely take it back for another one - but I'd still be ****** off at having to make an extra trip cos some guy traded in a half working Xbox.

Do they ask you if it's banned when you trade it in?
If not, no harm no foul.
#12
Just sell it on here, at least that way you're not doing anyone over.

I can't believe Game wouldn't test. In most cases the security sticker will have been tampered with anyway.

Very easy to make it look untampered or hard to notice anyway. Not all game stores would have internet access easy to connect to and not all consoles have an xbox live account

This.

Game take your details usually when you trade in anything, so it'll come back to you in the end.

Microsoft should have a database you can search to see if a machine is banned.
I'd be fuming if I still worked in game retail and couldn't check the status of a machine.
#17
they only test if it turns on and plays games they dont test it online i traded mine last week and none of my details were taken - they also check the security sticker but i wasnt trading in a bannded console thou:p

I agree with this, it can't be too hard for them to do surely.

probably being stupid here but can someone tell me how/why an xbox can be banned? Do people modify them in some way? If so, can it ever be un-banned?

Thanks

Modified to play 'back-ups'/copies, once played online Microsoft will ban the console usually, it will never be able to be unbanned. The console won't be able to play online again with any gamertag.

Thats the thing, I got this console off ebay, knowing it was banned, but it appears that it was banned for some reason other than playing copied games as none of my games work on it, even though they worked on my old flashed box.

Otherwise I'd be happey to keep it.

when I traded my xbox for PS3 they didn't even turn it on just wanted to make sure all cables where there.

You just have to accept that if you are going to play copied games you are going to get stung at some point...

You need to provide them with proof of identity and address so you can't exactly give false details, although when I traded mine in (not that it was banned anyway but they never checked) they never mentioned anything to me about the console being modified, and both myself and the manager signed something with the details on which had no mention of Xbox Live banning etc, although what it does say is that they have accepted it in its condition and have taken it from me in exchange for a certain amount of cash.

If it came down to it eventually, considering it was banned, could I even get in trouble for it? I mean if it's not tested whats not to say the person who bought it hasn't modified it, got it banned, then tried to take it back a few weeks after purchase.
