I stupidly, tonight, ran a red light. Luckily for me, there was not much traffic about, and no lanes leading onto my bit of the road, that I could have caused an accident. However, having only being passed nearly a month, I'm really worried!
I don't know if the light had a camera on top, but if it did, will it have taken a picture?
Hope someone can enlighten me.. and stop me worrying :p
Please, no lectures, or rude remarks, It was a geniune mistake, and the only reason I did it, was because there was such a short space between two sets of traffic lights.. I realised as I was going through, but realised it was too late to slow down :(

regardless of it lights are there for a reason and you should have been more aware especially as youve just passed!

So in some ways i hope you get a ticket as you deserve it: you broke the law.

However, maybe you will just learn if you dont get a ticket and pay more attention next time.

Just imagine if there had been another car, maybe with some kids in it?

I really doubt there would have been a red light camera there
They are pretty common in USA, but only really here on some major intersections
You should be fine

Although i do get annoyed if a red light shows at a pedestrian crossing etc at 1am or later, and there is like nobody walking anywhere at that time, and your like "what the hell am i waiting for here?"

Thank you, thats made me feel a little bit better, I know it was an idiotic thing to do, but by the time I realised it was a red light ( i first of all thought it was for the side road) , it was too late

must admit some roads are a bit confusing from time to time if your not use to the area, i like the decluttering idea they have tried in some places, so there is less road signs and lights everywhere.

Geniune mistake or not, it could have gotten people killed and lives ruined.....

sometimes there are cameras at lights, so if you didnt see a couple of quick flashes then you should be fine.

No problem

A Red Light Camera is a bit like this

http://tsnroundup.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/red-light-camera3.jpg

So it would be pretty easy to notice, due to it's big box
And there could be a warning sign like this one too, not too sure about the sign on all though

youl be fine a red light camera is light a speed camera you would have seen the flash in your rear mirror i think your thinking of the small sensors that are on top of quite a lot of traffic lights

yeah it was a stupid thing to do but im pretty sure weve all done it so ignore the people trying to lecture you

Go back to those lights today and see if they do have a camera on. The traffic light cameras tend to be grey rather than yellow in colour like speed cameras. However if you do get a ticket, its 3 points on the licence and a £60 fine, And its on for 5 years to help bump your car insurance up.

You also have to inform your insurance company immediately, else your cover will be invalid.

Also, with you being a new driver, their is a little known law that if you recieve 6 points on your licence in the first 2 years, your licence is made invalid, and you have to retake your test (and suffer a further 2 years)

This is a red light camera, and they are mounted on the kerb next to the lights on a separate pole. Any that look like cameras on the top will be the sensors that the traffic lights use to change the signal when they see a car approaching

I've run a red light before a long time ago. I'm not sure why, just totally ignored it, but stilll checked the side roads (as you are meant to do anyway), and I was ok.

Message to all the whingers and do-gooders: You have ALL made at least 1 mistake that could have put other road users in danger. Its even more worrying and dangerous if you really haven't realised you have.

Red light cameras are, despite what that other poster said, quite common in the UK, but they are not on every set, and the cameras are not located on the lights themselves.

They look like this:
