Hello, i am looking to take my son to a football match in Glasgow for his birthday then takling him on the ground tour. I have been looking for flights and trains but they are really expensive, do you know any cheaper alternatives other than driving. We will be going from the Midlands to Glasgow on 6th December and returning on the 7th December.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Flying will definatly be cheaper for you to get the glasgow or ever saltcoats and stevensons which is about 45 mins away from glasgow. Me and my OH drove up to glasgow from the south and it took the whole day pretty much and alot of petrol.

Defo Fly much quicker and works out nicer too.

I assume there is one in Edinburgh, i don't know really. I can fly from either Coventry, Birmingham or East Midlands.

Thanks for your help

Coventry no longer has any passenger services at all. Thomson Airways pulled out at the weekend.

BmiBaby also operate from East Midlands to Glasgow/Edinburgh, and from Birmingham to Edinburgh.

Its a long journey but funfare does it on a National Express coach Birmingham to Glasgow for £36 return I really dont know the area so can't help a lot....I think BMI is your best bet .

If your son is young enough then a family railcard might make sense. Also valid for a whole year so can get really cheap days out at other times as well. It costs initially but I saved more than the cost with our first tickets.

If you have time check out the SFA Museum at Hampden Park ,nearyby are the remnants of Cathkin Park
the home of the sadly defunct Hi Hi[Third Lanark] Both about 15 mins by train from city centre.

If you fly Ryanair to Prestwick (Glasgow) Airport...it is 45 minutes away from Glasgow.
Train (two an hour) and bus (two+ an hour) just outside the terminal (half price rail travel if you show your flight details - roughly £4 single). So easy both the train and bus take you right into the centre of Glasgow.
Deffo get the glasgow open top bus tour which leaves from george square.
