....whoever it is has mental issues I think.

Was in one store earlier and just looking at our options for another TV needed in the house and was just browsing the TVs when a 'Salesman' asked if we needed any help and before I could say no, the OH asked:

OH - "Does this TV have Wifi built in or do you need a Dongle as we were looking for a TV but not necessarily a 'Smart' TV"

SM - "You can't buy a TV with WiFi or what uses a Dongle or plug an Ethernet Cable into it that isn't a 'Smart' TV"

OH - "Doesn't our old Panasonic Plasma have a cable and or Wifi"....looking at me.

Me - "Yep"

SM - "I don't know where you heard it or who told you that but it's wrong"

Me - "Oh, so our TV is lying to us, c'mon dear there's a funny smell coming from this mans mouth"

Even after being filmed last time and being caught dishing out wrong information about HDMI Cables nothing has changed it seems.

Just bored so thought I'd bore you as well....I love sharing....:)

I bought a tablet the other day from currys. The assistant swore blind that Samsung only cover Tablets for 12 months warranty. .. wrong it's 2 years.
She also said I needed to purchase Antivirus because Mcafee is the only one that fully works on a Tablet..
She also said I need to take out the extra care insurance because my credit card and contents insurance won't cover it...

Bit of a strange and leading question you asked them to be honest. How many TV's do require internet that aren't smart TV's. Not the majority I would imagine. Do you expect someone on minimum wage to know every model of TV ever made?

Sounds like they are having a brain fart trying to determine what kind of TV OP actually wants. It's a pretty bloody random requirement, why not just ask if the TV uses a dongle or not? Or if it has internet or not. It's like OP was trying to catch them out.

Not really....we were looking at a TV that wasn't 'Smart' (As there is no such thing but really it wasn't) and someone who sells TVs should know a little about the product they sell....and lots of TVs have networking and have for years before 'Smart' TVs were invented by the Advertising department....but as it is irrelevant to the original question let's move on....

Reckon you'd be hard pushed to find a modern TV that has internet connectivity that wasn't a smart TV. It's hardly a premium option any more. They were probably running through every TV in the store in their mind, trying to think of one that had internet that wasn't a smart TV. My bet is they were struggling.

Hate getting jumped on in shops and sometimes us consumers know more than the staff themselves.
I know more than Game do, I was told ages back that Pokemon Rumble U for Wii U wouldn't work without the figures you can buy. Next they will be telling folk Super Smash doesn't work without buying all the Ammibo figures.

So now you want someone on minimum wage to know all past models of TV's, as well as the ones they sell now, computers, tablets and whatever else it is that they sell these days. Come on, be reasonable. If you asked them to find out, I am sure they would have looked it up. You could have helped them learn even, but you choose to be rude and condescending and to flounce off.

They must be useless human beings, because they didn't know every feature of your old TV. Shocking.

My TV has Ethernet but isn't a 'smart' tv. it predates that by a good few years!

It was a requirement if freesat back in the day. Saying that, what would be the point of asking for a NEW TV with internet access that it isn't smart? Surely that would indicate you want sime smart features as otherwise it would be kinda pointless??

Your *husbands* implied question was do you sell a non smart tv with internet. Perhaps he should think about how he phrases his questions. Does it have wifi or does it need a dongle would have been a simple question, but it isn't what he asked.

Manager at Curry's is that the best you can do? If taunting poorly paid shop workers gives you kicks, enjoy yourself. But don't expect me to validate your pathetic behaviour.

Staff for companies like this aren't trained on products, they're trained fundamental sales techniques and basic customer service. Someone who likes technology as a hobby will generally know more than Curry's staff.

I would never take advice off Curry's staff, I really dislike that company in general. Richer Sounds staff are generally slightly educated on their products, I would recommend them to a family member.

I sold kitchen appliances for a while and the "salesman" with the highest monthly figures was it seemed also the proud owner of more or less every appliance from every manufacturer. If you walked in and asked for a Bosch dishwasher he wouldn't muddy the waters by diverting you to an alternative,he'd simply sell a Bosch by claiming that brand was what he owned and he had the benefit of knowledge..not exactly ethical but effective. The second motivator for him was a trade bonus known as a "spiv" so he would aim to earn more commission by selling the unit with the highest trade kickback...I think the best way to choose new stuff is read decent impartial reviews or ask friends how satisfied they are with what they own. Set budget and stick to it. Remember the margins in electrical retailing are poor so salespeople are under pressure to make a sale and move on quickly to the next
punter.

Curry's will deal with your warranty for the first year - then you will have to direct to Samsung for the last year.

I.......can see where the sales person is coming from.

There isnt many TVs that would have internet port/wifi that aren't a smart TV and would throw me for a loop as well if I were asked. The TV we have does have an ethernet port as well as it happens, to update the firmware on the TV but, it isn't a smart TV and I would if asked, forget it had an ethernet port for that.
It does seem like a strange question to ask I must admit.
