Transferring data from one xbox to another - what do I need?

Hi guys, I've bought my son a new xbox for xmas so he will be going from a 20gb to a 60gb. I understand that he will probably want to transfer some of his data/game saves etc (sorry don't understand it all!). I'm just looking for a memory card but have come across a "512 mb memory unit" at Game for just under £30. Is this what I should be getting him, or can I get a memory card? If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks x

Dont touch a memory card. What you want is a transfer kit. You will need to phone Microsoft and tell them you want a transfer kit. You will probably need to provide the serial numbers for both consoles, but they will send you one, and it will be free. If it doesnt come in time, then use the exiting hard drive on the new console until it comes to avoid any problems.

i'm pretty sure Microsoft only provide transfer kits to people who have purchhased the Elite.

btw: you can get a 512mb Memory unit from CEX for £15 Brand NEW, still sealed in hard plastic. half the price of GAME!

You're correct. Just get a memory card and transfer your saves onto that. Anything else can be re-downloaded onto the new drive if necessary once you've recovered your gamertag onto the new drive.

Thanks so much everyone
And thank you for the very kind offer of the transfer kit but I have bought my other son a bigger hard drive so between them they can share the memory card that I will get from CEX.
And Lumor, I've got him a new xbox because his other one is on its way out - but all my kids are spoilt brats ;-)
