travel insurance-does this make sense?

Just watching all these people on the news who have holidays booked or trips home that will now be affected by british airways. Travel insurance will pay out if you booked before the strike ballot on the entire holiday including hotels etc but that doesnt make sense to me.

People on the news were saying that they just cant afford to buy a ticket with another airline because it will be dearer, but why dont the insurance companies pay the difference in ticket price rather than reimburse the whole thing? surely a winner all round?

or am I just being stupid?

rather than refund the ENTIRE holiday cost, why dont they pay the difference for a flight on another airline is what I mean? surely would cost less and people still get their holiday.

I don't understand why they're refunding the flight? Surely that's down to BA?

lol-no,sorry,im not explaining this very well-BA refund the flight, the insurers refund hotels/transfers etc,but my point is why dont they pay the DIFFERENCE between what ba refund and buying a flight with another airline-wouldnt that be cheaper for the insurers?

how many flights are there gonna be around xmas that arent pre-booked.......

there is a reason why the prices always go up this time of year

also trying to organise all that would be a major nightmare, times and dates blah blah

That would be a logistical nightmare, everyone asking for different amounts depending on the flight they choose.

Much easier to get the database of all the people and price that they need to refund and do a batch transaction,

As above ;-)

Logic and logistics often don't mix
