I recently planned a trip to NYC and found the advice given on here very helpful, so I'm back for your thoughts and tips on a summer trip I'm planning for me and the gf.

We have around 14 days holiday we can take, and I kind of want to do perhaps California for 5 or 6 days, then maybe somewhere else, and finally NYC for 2 or 3 days before we depart for the UK.

I was wondering what's the best way to travel between these places, I'm guessing regional flights? How old would you have to be to hire a car and drive from coast to coast? (Although I'm guessing 2 weeks isn't long enough to do this?)

Where's the best place to stay in Cali? I'm thinking cheap but nice enough, for example I stayed in The Pod in NYC, which was very reasonably priced but nicely furnished etc. What's the best time to go, price wise (for hotels and flights), June, July, August, or even the beginning of September? Finally are there any decent deals on flights around atm? I've checked the usual places but can't see anything special!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :).

Thanks in advance

we booked flights bout a month or so ago to go Heathrow to LA > LA to Vegas > Vegas to NYC > NYC to Heathrow,

all together flights were 643 each with American Airlines...and the week before they were actually slightly cheaper.

So we thought that was pretty good to get all the flights

we are going end of August/early sept that seemed to be the best sorta time for our price range

That'd be ideal, not too fussed about Vegas but it'd kill a few days! Kind of sucks that the gf is slightly older than me so she'll be 21 but I won't, oh well, no beer for me!

Where'd you book those flights from, the American Airlines website?

Cheers for that. Can't find anything close to £650 for the flights though, comes to over £700 just for LHR -> LAX -> JFK, so it'd be another £400 or so to get back from JFK.

I'll keep looking!

were stayin at a hotel near the marina del rey seems pretty nice, all in all for our holiday we managed to get hotels and accom for about £1100 - £1150 for 4 nights in each of the above cities, including the MGM grand woop

any good recommendations for places to go/see in L.A?

Sorry mate - How much are you paying to stay at the MGM?

I only ask as I've been to Vegas a few times and no a bit about the deals etc.. Plan on getting married at Ceasers Palace next year and first time I thought I had a great deal, second time I had a better room in the same hotel (Bellagio) for a third of the price!!

it was 714 for two rooms, 4 of us going, makes it about £44 quid a night, we thought we would go to a nice place in vegas...even though we will hardly be in the room lol, but it was the only city that we could actually get two rooms in our budget. LA and NYC we were looking at same sorta prices but just for one room.

We were gonna go planet hollywood as it was cheaper but when we went to book it was about £950 for two rooms for 4 nights, so we decided to go to the MGM

That's a good rate with the rubbish dollar at the moment.
Worth keeping a eye of this thread (Link Here) and if your rate goes down ahead of the trip changing it.

MGM is a good location and the Pool complex looks pretty cool, would recommend the Tix4Tonight booths for Half Price Shows (if your into that) and the Cheesecake factory in Ceaser's Palace for pretty cheap food of huge portions!

21 for car hire and you would blow most of your time driving there, unless you were doing 12 hours a day, just get a cheap internal flight to cali and drive to vegas.

Yes it was, can't remember if I repped you or not, so have some more!

I probably have £600 between the two of us to spend for 5 or 6 nights there. Would like to go to some of the decent beaches, a few nice shops, maybe Beverley Hills. See the sights mainly. So any hotels like The Pod would be cool.
