Trying to cancel Sky TV and losing the will to live!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please help me! I have tried 6 times to ring sky to cancel my TV subscription. Each time the line goes dead when I select the appropriate number. I've even tried chosing a different option to at least speak to a person but when they try to transfer me the line goes dead. The last guy I spoke to I begged not to transfer me to the 'dead' line. He said he'd stay on the line with me whilst he did so but guess what - yes, the line went dead!!

Will someone please tell me how I get to talk to a person who will cancel my sky and free me of the most horrific customer service I have ever received in my life.......

Usually things like this require a 30 day notice period, possibly best to write to them and send recorded delivery, then cancel your direct debit to stop future payments. If they ignore the letter they will ring you to find out why to have not paid them, simply explain that you wrote to them to cancel and have proof the letter was recieved - job done!

Ask robotochan he works for them, if hes on msn will pm link.

A while ago I cancelled mine no problems, apart from them ringing back every week with various offers.
Ring them back don't take any waffle and tell them straight.
I would just cancel the payment method too.

It's a problem with the system although usually when someone tells me they've been having the problem I keep them on line 1 and warm transfer on line 2 so you're never in the queue system so you can't be cut off (apart from when I press the wrong button on the phone :p)

Cancelling my direct debit sounds like the only option now. The only problem is that although I've been with sky for years I had a sky + box installed last summer and I'm not sure if that will have tied me in to a new 12 month subscription!?!?!? Need to get it sorted quite soon as am having virgin installed next week (I am a million per cent sure that there is no way on earth that their customer service can be worse than skys!)

Getting a new box from Sky is usually a new 12 month contract :whistling:

Thanks Robotochan. The last guy I spoke to said he would do this but oh no I still got the dreaded 'dead' line. Arrrghhhhhhhh

I wouldn't be too sure about Virgin's customer service being better - I'm with them and they never seem to get it right, although they have now messed up in my favour by putting my discount on twice (after they failed to put it on in the 1st place and I sepnt hours arguing the toos with their Indian call centre about what they had promised me when I upgraded, so I pay next to nothing :)

only do that if you do not mind having bad credit as they instantly send you a bill with an extra £4 Charge as admin fee non dd and if you keep refusing to pay as I would do then you get credit blacklisted as result or you will do eventually
#15
Did mine by Email got confirmation in about 5 days. Notic eperiod began when they recieved the E-Mail.

I wonder how long it would take sky to fix a blip in the system like this if it were when customers were selecting the 'I want to upgrade my subscription or purchase more services' option!!?!!

Sky are really not helping me in my quest to not smoke or drink alcohol!! Deep breaths and count to 10 .............

I've gotta cancel my sky in a few months when I've finished uni, just had a couple of questions so if anyone could help I'd be grateful. Firstly, how much notice do you have to give them and secondly, what happens to the dish, sky box, wireless internet receiver etc do they collect them from you or are they yours to keep?

Hell no...expect a £25 charge for doing this. I tried to leave and after them confirming my next payment would be my last, I cancelled after it was taken...I then had a letter saying I shouldnt have cancelled the DD...ok in my case it was their error and I had a refund and they sorted out the cancellation

Virgin Media Customers Services, in a word 'Sh*t'

I advised them I was moving home and wanted to transfer the services to my new place... I told them move got delayed and asked them to hold the transfer.

They disconnected my services on my original move date, phone and broadband died 7pm Friday night.

Called them Saturday, explained what had happened and they said sorry Service will be back in an hour...

Long story short, chatted to 8 Customer Services people over 15 days and escalated to CEO office - had no service for 3 weeks.

Never again!

Oh dear. That doesn't sound too good!

I'm happy to say that my installation went without a hitch yesterday. The guys couldn't have been better - they even run the cables under the carpet for me where the original sky ones ran - sky engineers don't do that, they just leave it trailing round the house.

Have now moved the sky + box into my son's room for him to enjoy freeview and i have to say that there are so many more benefits to virgin over sky. I think the ability to watch programmes from the last 7 days is great, the broadband is super fast and too many other things to mention.

So I happily say 'good ridance sky' and 'hello virgin'!!

Just stop paying for it and it will soon go off! they will threaten you with debt recovery but there is nothing they can do about it as you may have signed for the installation but you will not have signed a copy of the consumer credit act 1974. Without this legal threats are just empty hot air!

In fact you could send a letter requesting a copy of the consumer credit act which you are supposed to have signed! they must respond to this or they are liable to criminal prosecution!

You will find the response will be something along the lines of 'we are sorry to have troubled you and will be taking this matter no further' thus stopping any credit reference agency from blacklisting you! ☺

Good luck cancelling Sky, took me half a day with phone calls, they offered me 15% off as I said it had become expensive, when I said no thank-you, they said why not this is less than you are paying?
That was it I will take my money and spend it as I like, remember there is only so many hours a day you can watch the TV. Lots of good TV for free out in space, I had been a customer for over 20 years and on the FULL package. Now Sky loses over £600 a year!
I'm the happy one.........................

I have tried to cancel Sky by email ( yes I got a reply) spent one hour on live talk on internet and they accepted in writting on the "live chat" all my details and also that they recieved my cancelation by e mail but then after one hour on live chat told me they would not accept my notice on live chat although one can print the wholw chat. They will only accept notice if I telephoned them on their premium telephone line. Can they do this by law, as most companies will not accept notice via the telephone but only in writing. They would not give me a UK address to actually write to, would not ring me and also they would not give me a normal rate telephone number to call at normal rates. Has any else found this and can they legally refuse to accept my notice in any other way than via a premium line?

Why don't you email executive complaints where they will beg you to stay, offering you sex and generally bending over backwards (more sex) to please you.

They pay me for my sky full package now! X)
