feast yer eyes on this.. post.10..save me typing it all again!

well..copied and paste for ease of viewing..
went to marmaris when i was at university.. its a VERY touristy place with a lot of local pervs about-lol. ok- dont shoot me down, they're not ALL pervs- but between us we had a few marriage proposals from ppl we barely knew! saying that, you'll see A LOT of older women gallavanting about with the young turks, and if buying something from the stalls, youll have to haggle big-time (used to be lira's when we went- is it euro now? pricey..) it's definately not upmarket, though in the evenings the wotsit walking area by the sea (promenade?-cant remember the terminology) was really lively. the locals are really very friendly, though be warned, all the cheesey foods like pizza are made using goats cheese. alright if u like it, but oh so smelly(!) we were not as 'cultured' so anything bar cheddar/ cow cheese made us boak. the salt wotist in pamukkale were fab - bit of a coach trip, but that excursion also took us to fetiye (sp) and a carpet factory. carpet factory visit is quite boring actually.. but overall, though it may not sound like it, i had a fab time, and it was a really fun place to go. just found this on net, may be of help

edt. we were woken up every morning by fellow tourists (also from england, i'm sure) with music blasting from their sound system as they 'relaxed' by the pool in next door hotel. the song was, 'i'm horny...horny, horny, horney' (said 'horneh) awful awful awful! still laugh abt it..(just thought i'd add this bit of info in too, as i was on a roll..)

I went in june this year, was gorgeous & reached 48degree's!

Only problem was the men who are pains there, however was a brilliant holiday, and being lira was cheap too!

Make sure you go on a boat trip, preferably one for only a few people, as you can really appreciate the stunning sea there, and go jumping off the boat.

Hope you have a great holiday when you go x

we went marmaris in july, wonderful place, ppl are sooooo friendly its untrue, i'd do the lazy day boat trip as well the jeep safari ( u will get very dirty but very worth it). Also exchange ur money over there u get a much better rate. And book all ur excursions with the shops they have over there dont do it with ur hotel or the travel agent reps they charge a bomb.

U can also swim with dolphins for 200 lira, thats about £80 which is very worth it. but book early its hard to get a place.

Marmaris and Bodrum tend to be moret for people who like clubbing, drinking etc, you may find a lot of rough people there.
My advise is to visit further south to a place called Fethiye which is the region of Mugla.
It's 20 minutes drive from Olu Deniz, there is a great lagoon there and a beach.
Also check out Patara beach, which is the biggest in Turkey being more than 20Km long and almost no people at all.
Also like the comments above, take a boat trip, you should see some
Loggerhead Turtles, Flying fish etc

You will have a great time i'm sure

the word fish sounds rude

Take some ear plugs to block out the early morning wailing.

take a boat trip to icmeler (pronounced ishmeller) or turunc (turrunsh) which are the next two resorts along the coast - much less lively than marmaris and all the better for it in my opinion. we stayed in turunc - no hassle from local men who were universally polite to me and my g/f (that may be cos i look a bit mediterranean myself). nice restaurants and very attractive scenery.

it was out first proper trip to turkey other than a day trip we did years ago. we very much enjoyed it. try to learn a little of their language, or at least take an interest in their customs or history - it'll go a long way.

That's great that you are trying to learn the language. You will find that you will make more the locals happier there if you can say even a few words.

A little advise for you is that with words/place names such as Içmeler or Turunç, the ç is pronounced "Ch", as in "Charlie", whereas saying "Sh" would be the letter ş
It may be confusing if you see a normal "c" though as that is pronounced as a "J" as in "Jam"

Hope that helps you:)

It is actually a really nice Country......

The food is worth trying (There will always be 'English'ish' places that are not good)!

It gets very hot.

If you can, get out of the hotel/villa etc to see the place.

And take a good camera!

Enjoy your hols:)

Yes!! ^^ You give them £10 when you go through passport control their side!

Went last year, only took £'s as they prefer our money to theirs as they get a better exchange rate (notes only). Markets always do good offers for a £10 note, remember to haggle, they love it.
