I'm going near to Alanya in a few weeks on holiday. I thought that the turkish currency was the Lira, however reading reviews of the hotel, they talk about euros.

Which currency should be used?

You can use both, but if you're in small shops and markets they'll convert there and then and you may lose out with the rate they show so best to keep some Lira for cheap stuff and use Euros for more expensive stuff.

Hi ,i Am Turkish And Your Best Bet Is To Change Your Currency When You Get There Into Turkish Liras Dont Waste Time And Commission On Changing Sterlin Into Euros And Then Into Liras.

We honeymooned in Turkey and we found that the local markets preferred English pounds as its worth more to them, i bought 3 handbags (fake of course!) but i would have only got 2 if i was paying in Lira, for the same amount of English money if i'd have converted it from Lira to pounds-if that makes sense!! I'd take both pounds and Lira, oh and dont forget your crisp £10 note as a visa, some people on our plane didnt know about it, their travel agents hadnt told them they needed it to get in the country and they were stood in tears in the airport!!
