TV Advice

Evening all, looking for some advice from the tv experts.
Finally entered the 21st century and got rid of my old 28" CRT and bought the Panasonic TX-P42S21B (got it for £570 with a blu-ray player and photo frame thanks to the deal posted on here)
Not had a chance to play with the settings yet, havent really needed to as the picture is fantastic.
One thing I have noticed, as the room gets darker, the picture seems to get a little darker too, not sure if this is normal?
Would appreciate some advice as to how to achieve the optimum settings and any other tips to keep the tv in prime condition.
Thanks
Jeff

It has a eco mode turned on, turn it off and then this would not happen.
