TV buying help - is this a good buy?

Would really appreciate some advice, please.

My old mum's CRT tv has finally given up the ghost and she wants "one of those flatscreen thingies" LOL!

I am not much good with TV stuff either, we bought our LCD through hotukdeals after reading good recommendations for it!

Her TV was a 28" so want around that size, have seen a 26" one in Argos that has good reviews, but please can anyone tell me their opinion?

Ideally she wants silver but cant find many, the Argos one is really at the top of her budget already - but can anyone recommend any others?

Will probably never be hooked up to HDMI, just scart

its not great tbh, the contract ratio is very low and the resolution isn't that great, and its an alba, there are so many tv's out there for around that price range, that are so much better than this. Give me 20 minutes and i shall find you a few

oh just so you know Mrs.Z, there isn't a lot of good offers on atm on tv's mainly for 2 reasons, it isn't the time of year for buying new televisions as its not quite Christmas promo time for stores yet and also because most manufacturers are between seasons on new tv's.

Ah, okay, she is very impatient, though - I told her to put her bedroom tv in the front room whilst we shop around for a good deal, but she just said "But then I won't have a TV in my bedroom!!!" :giggle:

Can I expect a standard 2 year warranty on a tv?

yes like most things, but they can not tell you what exact specifications are on the set, and if there is a fault with the set, they can't send it back to the 'main' manufacturer, because there isn't one, they aren't a good tv, if you have one, and your happy with that, fair enough but im just generally saying as i do know quite a bit about tv's they aren't that good by ratings and by reviews.

nope, not every brand gives you more than one year, but there is a loop hole in the sales of goods act where you can get get through this (i will get you this as well :))

read fact number 6

with knowing this, if you have the sheet when you take the item back to the store, they can't refuse it as it is part of the law :)

if you are thinking 32" - get a 37" - I did this with my mum and she absolutely loves it she used to have a 27" CRT and the same happened and she asked for one the same size one of those flat thingys! so I bought a Tecknika 37" for just over £300 from Tescos with doyble points and she said she feels like she is in the cinema, she has had it for about 6 months now, it is better bigger as her eyes (like mine) are not too good.
I bought the Marks 40" for daughter to play the Wii now I am sorry did not get a 47 or 50"

Thank you, but 22" is too smal and the other one is a bit pricey :)

Thanks but she hasn't got much to spend at the moment, really £230 would be her top limit (with my persuasion!), the 37" Technika seems to have been discontinued now, though I can see that it has excellent ratings :)

I don't think so, I am in North East London :)

Okay, I found that there are a few Richer Sounds stores within reasonable travelling distance, they have these 2 tv's, can anyone advise, please?
