just buy a tv that doesn't have a built in tuner
#3
You can use a normal TV, connected to a DVD player.

You only need a TV license if you watch or record LIVE television.

And you catch up with most programs on iPlayer, itvPlayer, 4OD and Demand Five anyway if you connect a PC.

My understanding of the law is that you can buy any television you want and hook it up to a DVD player. You just need to make sure that it is NOTtuned into any TV channels.

You do not need to pay for "any of the BBC's output", only the live television

iPlayer, BBC News, BBC Radio etc. is all free.

it shouldnt be mandatory. it should be optional and if you dont pay, the BBC channels are scrambled on your TV.
tho I suspect implementing that would cost some dosh!

if you have a tv in the house capable of receiving live programmes you could get done. So if you hear a knock on the door cut the plug off it before you open the door. Hiding it behind the sofa won't work.

why don't you tell the bbc that they shouldn't give anything free then? Although its not completely funded by the license fee anyway.

Do you send ch4 some money every time you watch it or are you happy to use their output for free?

Or just say you wont allow them in the house without a warrant? Then you have plenty of time to unset everything...:whistling:

Just because you watch and listen to there broadcasts, do you think it is fair that I should pay for it when I never use it's service and dont want to.

There should be a choice end of the day.

Nor of course do you need a license if you have 20 TV's and 4 PC's with TV Cards in. It did USE TO be the case that anything capable needed a license, but not for a long time now.

I think that the licence fee is exceptional value for money. Not paying it at the moment as I don't have a TV at the moment, but I only EVER watch BBC channels and stuff on iPlayer when I do watch TV.

I do, however, disagree with their collection tactics. As I say, I have no TV and despite a visit within the last year am being hounded by threatening letters, telling me how I can "avoid prosecution" and leaflets which "may be useful" when I'm taken to court... I don't think any other company would get away with that...

This is an interesting site:

All you should have to do is write a letter to them, stating that you do not own any equipment that is tuned to receive television broadcasts and their letters/visits should stop.

I did this back in the days when I only watched German TV via Astra.

They left me in peace for 2 or 3 years after that letter, at which point the wording of the law changed to include even non-UK TV broadcasts. Bah!

They are not likely to believe anyone that does that . Very surprised they stopped hounding you for so long or even at all after declaring you had no TV receiver equipment etc.. It's illegal in any other form how the British Bullying Corporation get away with it is scandalous.
