What make of TV is it? I had a similar problem with my LG 37inch LCD and it usually worked after disconnecting at the mains and reconnecting! The guys who came to look at it said it was a fault they had seen before but short of replacing the brain (which they weren't reccomending for an intermittent fault) they had no answers!

best of luck!

This is a shot in the dark, but if the sound you describe as a "grasshopper" is what I think it is, your TV is duffed. If it's a CRT that is, as it makes a funny sound when it is trying to light the "tube" and I suppose it could sound like a Grasshopper??

goodmans make, just a normal tv, not flat screen or anything fancy.

thanks for all the help I guess it cant be fixed then

I let it rest for 24 hours is that long enough?

also reconected it a few times which didnt help either

sounds a bit like how my old tv went.. after some gooling I suspected a blown capacitor.. or possibly the tube had gone, either way its was done for and made a nice garden ornament for a few days till someone stole it lmaooo...

will be worth a quote from a tv repair man
my old crt needed a £1 part
he did it for £31

but then again that's all a crt is really worth now

Easiest way to check if a remote is working is look at the end through a phones camera while pressing buttons on it the camera will show IR illumination that the eye cannot see. If nothing is visible the batteries or remote are dead try again with new batteries, if still no joy then the problem lies with the remote.

good one, many years ago when i worked in tv industry we had a eyepiece that would do that, often wondered if there was another solution but all my remotes have indicators on them lol
