I have a friend who fits tv aerials and swears by Sony, until he saw a few installs with the 40W5500 model. He really wasn't impressed with the set at all, especially on the freeview playback.

The LG would be my personal pick of the 2 models you're choosing from. LG technology is right up there now.

Just before you go and buy it, the LG 42LF7700 is now available for £629 and comes with Freeview & Freesat built-in. I know the LG42LH5000 you've been looking at has 200hz technology, but it's not a true 200hz, but a 200hz effect. See the link here to AVForum for someone thinking of buying either yours or the 7700: http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/1065512-lg-lcd-42lh5000-42lf7700.html

You can get it from Digital Direct on 12 months interest free for £629 + 2.5% Quidco and it comes with a 3 year warranty too. So £613.28 after Quidco.
