I need a USB TV turner for my laptop. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to look for.

One thing I know is, that my laptop has 1920x1200 screen, so ideally I'm after a HD turner, cos without proper upscaling, standard defination TV will look pretty bad on WUXGA screen.

But are there freeview HD broadcast in UK? if so are there any recommendations?

Just the normally channels + any extras...

I prefer not to have messy aerial if possible...

I bought a cheapo one of ebay, but i have looked at others and all the aerials seem to be the same, orrible things, is it to watch on the move etc?

Have a look here, i think Pinnacle make good ones,

I had one and if was connected to a proper aerial it was fantastic but using the little bit of wire and plastic that came with it it never got a signal... total waste of time and money.... You will need to carry a satellite dish to get Freesat HD!

I can never see the point of hooking it up to a proper aerial as surely you would have a tv nearby anyway?

I use the bbc iplayer, 4od and itv catch up etc, is that not an option for you? its just like has been said unless you hook it up to a proper aerial the signal is hit and miss
