Twin-tuner PVR + DVD recorder combined - no such thing?

Why does no major manufacturer like Sony or Panasonic make one of these? Come to think of it, does any manufacturer make one? How much does it cost to add an extra tuner - £10?

Check out the constant requests for such a thing on various forums - there's a clear market, but why no interest in making one?

My Humax is great, but it would be useful to be able to move the occasional programme quickly and easily to DVD. If Sony or Panasonic made a twin-tuner DVD/HD recorder, I reckon they could sell thousands of units.

So why don't they? Or does anybody else make one?

many companies did in the analogue days

I used to have a Philips HDD / DVD machine and still have a LiteOn machine which I use for the very occasional backup.

However its a PITA to get stuff of my Virgin V+ box so maybe there is some legal issue that stops manufacturers making them ?

every pvr has an automatic channel record for bbc prgrams, it's called 'dave' lol

by the time they think of it the market will be dying for demand anyway, if you think about it, we'll have these connected to a freeview tv, so you watch on the tv's tuner, record on the pvr's unless they come up with one that will record 2 channels to pvr at same time?

and to be fair, most things on freeview are repeated pretty quickly anyway these days, even on the big old school channels.

My PVR can already record two channels as it has two Freeview tuners. Of course you can't watch live TV while both tuners are being recorded but you can watch something that you have already recorded to your hard disk. Mine is a Digifusion 80 Gb if that helps. There is no way I can record to DVD though, asw there aren't any ports out.

... am I right in thinking that if you have a digital freeview integrated TV, then a single tuner PVR will allow you to record whilst watching another channel? Looking for a PVR/DVD recorder to use with an integrated freeview TV and the reviews on Amazon of both the Panasonic DMR-EX78EB-K (thanks carrieb, rep added!) and Sony RDR-HXD995 suggest you can do this with no problem.
