thats is all it is, you can only comment on the feeds of people you're following and update your own status'.

its only worth it for latest news comming from big companies, theres also a few competitions run by these companies lately, the jet2.com free flights competition for example.

As a web page Twitter doesn't seem all that. You can use third party software though (tweetdeck for example) and things get going a bit better.

Fundamentally though you need to "follow" other ppl. Once you have you will see all the comments they make. You may like to follow news reports (BBC etc tweet news) Same with 10 downing street. I follow a fair few celebs (Yeah I'm sad I know) nearly wet myself when Philip Schofield started following me!! haha Stephen Fry will follow anyone that asks.

As you become more used to it you get to know about searching through the gazzilion messages with the use of hashtags. If you google twitter hashtags you will probably come across an explantion of it better than I can give here.

When I first signed up I went nuts and was addicted for a good two weeks Jason Manford likes to reply to ppl a fair bit :) You do have to appreciate that some celebs have half a million followers so any message you send to the (by way of typing @username anywhere in your message) celeb will probably wizz by at 100mph! so don't feel dis-heartened if you don't receive a reply.

There is a Direct message service but the person receiving the DM has to be followed by the person sending it (Ie I follow the QI elves (they send out weird facts every now and again). They sent me a DM regarding a message I sent. They don't follow me but I follow them. Of course it also works if both parties are following.

Beware of fakes though - there is a site that has verified celebs - name of it escapes me atm though valebrity ?

Twit pic is good too - you can post a pic (celebs takes pictures of ANYthing LOL) again google will help there.

A few I follow:

Schofe (Philip Schofield - he's totally addicted)
jimmycarr (He's not so much into replying to ppl as much but still witty).
Jason_Manford (My fav and about to become a daddy to twins)
stephenfry (Twitter Daddy)
Wossy and ferretprincess (Jonathon Ross and his wife Jane - they're really nice)
qikipedia (QI elves mentioned earlier)

Thats not my complete list of celebs but just a few.

You don't need to follow or be followed to send a member a message though. As long as you know the username you just prefix it with @ (no space) and it will appear in their mentions page (doesn't have to be at the start of the message).

Ie Hi ya @Jason_Manford Go massage your poor wife's feet!

Hope that helps a little x

so when i type @jimmycarr with a message how does he see it also, is it right that the message i typed to him is now my status?

If you're looking at the home page you will see @username that will list all messages sent by anyone that has put @yourusername - is your username on there the same ? I'll send you a message - click on @username to the right on the homepage and all messages mention you with @ in it will be there.

It's not so much a status - more just the last message you sent.

i would suggest using the twitter help pages instead of a misc section on a uk cheap deals website ...

twitter gets a lot of crap from people who dont use it - no one is forcing u to use it btw dont feel ur cool for not using it either.
a misconception is all u do is say "i had toast for breakfast" "i am walking the dog" you are right no one cares about that so no one really writes that (if they did then dont follow them!)

its good to keep up to date with the news and any famous people u wish to know more about its also handy to keep in contact with friends and family you can even ask questions and get help..

basically be interesting and people will follow u
