UBUNTU 11.10 HELP - any ubuntu users out there?
Hi Guys
I know there is not many users, but some help. I loaded ubuntu 11.10 to a old laptop which was dying.
And working well now, but as new to ubuntu
Can anyone point out some help or guides on how to use or make the most of it (video or walk through)
Basically just need some help to load the apps on the desktop for easy acces and find out where the disc drive info are located (I need them so I can load and save files from HDD to Disc etc)
I know its seems mad, but just need to learn to use for easy use to start off.
I did load docky but where is it?
I need about a dozen applications loaded and then put on screen and then I can work my way around from there.
cheers

first time user, so once I get the basics, I can push on from there
I had Ubuntu on one of my machines for ages but got rid of it after the last update and put xp back on, however recently installed windows 8 on a couple of my pc's, the main one (after a wee bit of tinkering) works great but the other one which the bairns use has graphics driver issues that I can't seem to get round so i'm downloading 11.10 as we speak (type) to put on it.
Lappy got win 7 pro, another older laptop xp and the new zoostorm pc desktop with the 1TB HDD I got from ebay I have DL ubuntu on it.
bascially i only want it go on the net, DL and basic stuff.
but trying to figure out to get best use of it. As I have not used it before I wanted to add the icon on the desktop and get the drive shortcuts on the desktop and find the best apps for moving files from c drive to rom drive and and so on.
but need some helpful guides on how to get the apps onto the desktop so I can have easy access to them.
I did load docky which is recommended, but once loaded where the hell it go. Infact everything you load where goes it go and how do i get them onto the desktop.
There is a files box to look at docs, but where is the c: or if I add a usb drive where would that F: (for example) show up?
Just some basic (how to's) to show where to look so I can start playing around with the OS to suit.
