Help! Im returning to the UK from Cyprus after nearly 5 years away and I am confused by the UK broadband choice. Do I have to have a BT line fitted? Whats the best broadband and phone bundle? I only have modest download requirements 8gb would be more than enough. Can anyone help please?

Yeah you need a bt line but you don't have to pay your line rental to bt, You can get it in a broadband bundle.

For ADSL Broadband you will almost certainly need a BT line fitted but you can then sub contract the phone provider out to companies such as Orange and Sky for example- I'm presuming your coming back from Akrotiri?

To be honest with you, Basic Broadband should cost you no more than £20 per month and a BT contract can be as little as £10 per month. Personally I find that there can be a lot of pitfalls with package services and I tend to steer clear, especially if you move around a lot.

You don't have to pay any line rental if you chose Virgin Media if it's available in your area.

Thanks for the advice. Im returning from the other side of the Island, Ay Nik near Ayia Napa. I wont be moving around a lot now, I'm moving to the Ancaster (Lincs) area so providers may be hard to come by.

Providers should not be a problem, ADSL is availible pretty much anywhere nowadays providing your reasonably close to an exchange. If you know your postcode then whack it into one of the provider sites such as www.fast.co.uk if you can get it from them then you can get it from any provider.

Orange.co.uk and Sky.com do pretty good package deals although the 'free' broadband element is subject to your area - personally I cant get Sky broadband in my area.

fast.co.uk, the company I use for BB are slighlty pricey but they have a dedicated UK support team so you dont have to speak to a Bangladeshi support center every time you have a problem, which is the case with most major providers nowadays.
