UK Proxy for BBC iPlayer

So I'm bored at work and want to watch a bit of TV.

However, my works proxy server is US based (I work for an American company, but am in the UK). So BBC iPlayer throws a [email protected] fit thinking I haven't got a license, etc, to watch the content.

I understand the principle, but I'm sitting here in Newcastle :-(

Anyone know of any decent, public UK proxies I can use to see it. Am running IE and portable firefox.

try using proxy.telewest.co.uk port 8080

Proxy Settings in Mozilla Firefox

1. Click Tools->Options;
2. "General", "Connection Settings";
3. Select "Manual Proxy Configuration";
4. Enter proxy IP and port to appropriate fields;
5. Click OK to close Connection Settings;
6. Click OK to close Options;
7. Reload browser.

you should edit your OP because swear filter doesn't work there :thumbsup:

Why you wanna go on BBC iplayer - when I was DYING to watch Lost I couldn't get onto ABC's website (think it was that one - US based one anyway) to watch Lost in HD

Have a looksie there instead! :-D

Noooooo.
I already have the high score on all the minesweeper levels too.

Oh well ... at least torrent sites aren't blocked. Not sure about ports for the client, but I'll try a web client if not and just download some stuff to watch.

The company recently changed their proxy server ... it used to block "proxy avoidance" sites which was clever as you couldn't obtain a proxy to change the proxy. But now I can, so I could always trawl through some public lists. But they are rarely any good for streaming.

Good point. Big lost fan as well ... but generally only watch episodes once.

Aah, see that's not a problem for me - I have usually forgotten what happened the week before by the time I sit to watch the next one :roll:

Start 'Flashforward' then :-D

This is odd. BBC is saying I'm not in the UK. ABC is saying I'm not in the USA.

Some WHOIS sites say USA, some say France. All the same actual IP ... I'm confused :-/

This sucks. http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/ shows my location as in the USA ... Wichita to be precise. Even shows it on a map. But ABC says I'm not in the US. Baah.

Proxies are generally slow, way too slow or videos.

I agree - if you only use free proxies.

If you pay a small fee, you get decent quality. I watched the majority of the last season of 24 on hulu.com through a proxy.
