Anyone else see the irony in the timing of this announcement?

The UK is giving £75m ($133m) to help Bangladesh prepare for the impacts of climate change, the government will announce on Wednesday.

The money will go on measures such as protecting houses, schools and farms against flooding, and introducing new crop strains.

I have no problem with the aid going there, but the hypocrisy of the Government continues to astound me. Not enough money in the public purse to solve the flood issues in our own land!!!!!!

I think some perspective is required here.
In 2007 the death toll from floods in the UK was less than 20, in Bangladesh it was in excess of 500.
I'm proud that some of my wages will go to help people less fortunate than me.
Of course people who have been affected by floods in Britain will be upset, and so they should be, but that shouldn't stop us helping other countries in my opinion.
