If youve bought a copy of windows 7 upgrade from the manufacturer of your pc and installed and activated it. Can you then remove it from that pc and put it on another one and activate that one?
do you have to deactivate the original one or something so MS doesnt think its a copy?

I want to know because my new laptop is faulty and the replacement will be after 15th feb which is the last day for ordering w7 upgrade. So i want to know if i can put it on the faulty one in the mean time without any problems.
Also, when ordering it you have to put in the serial code and proof of purchase etc, so will that disc only work in the one you supplied the serial code of?
please help if you know. HP seem to have a bad customer service and havent answered these questions.
Thanks

Had something similar happen to a customer a few years ago, with an OEM copy of MS Office.

It failed to re-activate via the Internet because the DOA replacement was a different model and we had to call the activation phone number, who after a moment on hold re-activated the Office license - no problem at all.

If it is the same exact model it may even re-activate via the Internet without a problem.

Going by recent comments, people have been able to re-activate OEM licenses via the automated phone activation system, without the need to even speak to anyone.

Try it, if it fails wait to be put through to a human and explain the scenario. If they refuse ask for their manager, note names and call reference and call HP on 020 7949 0300, asking for them to send you a new license sticker.

No such thing as de-activation.

According to the license agreement you are supposed to throw the license sticker in the bin and buy a new one. :w00t:

I reckon the phone activation will work for you without a problem, because it's been less than 30days since the initial activation of the Windows upgrade.
