I've completed a few drafts for my UCAS application in October.

I was just wondering how long it should be, alot I have seen are not too long, mine extends to just over 2 pages of A4, does it need to be shortened?

Cheers

I'd worry about your spelling more than anything, hence the topic title.

Fill the page.

Have a good look through this, which tells you pretty much exactly how to do it:
http://www.ucas.ac.uk/students/start...onalstatement/

Draft a statement following the advice and then get your personal tutor/ head of Y12/ relevant teacher to have a look at it and give advice. They should also have a booklet of good practice drawing on the experiences of your school/college. Keep it straight forwards.

Uni admissions tutors are looking first and foremost for you to demonstrate a very positive attitude to the degree course you are applying for and they will look for evidence that you are interested and have already understood the basics and have read around the subject. If they do interviews then that is the time to show your depth and breadth but hint anyway in the personal statement.

Thanks for the replies, I've found that the limit is 4000 characters and mine is 5702 so I need to do alot of cutting out!!!

Going to be hard as I just got the things in I thought were important...

don't you have to print it out on that sticky paper that comes with it and stick it to the form? mine was about 3/4 page.

Ah thats good that they finally modernised it now... I am going back too far... 2004 when I did mine. I had to do the whole form again because that stupid sticky sheet kept bubbling up when you tried to stick it down...it happened to quite a few of us!

But anyway back to the topic... I think 2 sides may still be too long... think about it from the reader's perspective... a few really well crafted paragraphs that make you stand out would be better.

You might think i'm a total troll or a time waster but let me tell you this.

Just like most things in life, Personal statements for unis are extremely and highly over rated.
I did mine in 1 day and 1 night ... it was utter garbage and a now I hold 3 Unconditional offers to start uni at september.

well, we honestly can not know anything for a fact, but I don't see how anyone could have even considered me with the personal statement I submitted HAHA. Honestly. It was/is so bad the ending sentence doesn't even come to an end correctly. It just stops. lol

Anyway, good luck to the op with the ps and I wish you the very best of luck. I was only sharing my personal experience.

And yes, to send it on UCAS along with everything else it MUST be 1 page.
