Unlocking a Sony Ericsson K610i

I want to unlock my K610i before I sell it and have found some UK websites that offer this service but Id be grateful for any feedback on these sites or a pointer to other reputable unlocking sites.

mobile-unlock-codes.co.uk quote £3.99 for the K610i which seems reasonable.

foneszone.co.uk ask you to enter your IMIE before quoting a price which I havent done yet:

You won't be able to code unlock it for that price so I'd say it's a scam.

Thanks. It does seem cheap. Maybe because it’s an old phone and people don’t want to pay much to unlock them!

You can do it yourself for free though anyway.

Don’t tease. :) How do I do it?

Is it safe to give your IMIE code to a website?
I'll post a guide later, bit busy now.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I’ll run it tomorrow and report back. Cheers.

Ok that's fine, edit out your imei though. I'll post you a guide up either in a minute or tomorrow. Would you like to debrand the phone aswell?

IMEI already removed.
Debranding would be good to.
Ok, yours is on three yes? As far as I know debranding will remove their windows live messenger and skype, let me know if that's still ok.

Yes it is on 3.
It's so old it doesn't have Skype etc anyway as I've never updated it.

Maybe it’s better to leave the branding and just unlock in case the buyer wants to use 3 in future.
Is there much difference between just unlocking and also debranding?
Are they both firmware updates?
Unlocking will literally just unlock it, I'd personally debrand it to a generic UK model as I hate network branding, in your case it looks like you're already running the latest firmware although a version probably crippled by 3.

If I debrand it can it still be used with 3 in the future?
I just checked and it doesn’t support Skype.
Yeah it will still work on 3 fine, it just won't have their web links or software like skype, which you said yours didn't have anyway, and you should be able to rebrand it again anyway.

I’m a relative newb with regard mobile debranding so I’m a bit cautious.
Am I correct in that unlocking is fairly simple but debranding requires a firmware update which is a little bit risky?
If it was a PC, PVR or DVD-burner I wouldn’t think twice about updating the firmware so not sure why I am being wimpy with updating a phone!!!
This is a good guide to read if you wanna see if you feel confident with it:
That's missing one tiny step, but nothing complicated.

So I need to flash a new firmware even just to unlock it?

I’m not sure that I understand how to follow certain stages:

“Tick flash main firmware and browse for your main.
Tick flash file system and browse for your fs.
Tick customize file system select phone model and region”

I wouldn’t know how to respond to that!

Thanks for all your help but I need to go to bed now.
