Updating your Wii

The Wii that I ordered on Friday was delivered yesterday. After work, I plugged it in, configured the wireless settings and was prompted to download the latest updates. This took 5 hours. I didn't get to play my Wii at all last night. Did anyone else take this long? Did everyone who bought their Wii on Friday get theirs today and try the same thing? Did we kill Nintendo's update server? Maybe my connection to their server sucked.

Same as above, took 5mins max. Def seems to be some issue there as it should never take that long. Whats your connection???

2Mb connection. Maybe I had a bogus connection for some reason or my ISP sucks. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

Yep, took me about 5 mins to fully update. Might be something wrong with your wireless settings.

Word on the street is that setting your router to channel 1 or 11 seems to be the most compatible connection.

This is for certain, had loads of trouble with my wireless, it jst refused to connect, then found out the strongest channels are 1 and 11, i think by default its set as 1, so changed my channel to 11 and what do u know, all worked.

Suppose u could try this then, worth a shot Skorch

Do we have to install these updates when we first connect to the net? Just that read on another thread that it restricts downloading some games etc:?

Can't remember if you have to update first time you connect (maybe someone else can), but after that its optional.

Not sure about that, but i i remember, as soon as my connection was made succesfully, it automatically started downloading two sets of updates. Long as u leave it connected 2 connect24 (think its called that) and the Wii is on Standby you should automatically get updates (think)
