Upgrade O2 broadband return old box?

I upgraded to one of the new O2 broadband packages and they sent me a new version IV box last week. A couple of days later I receive an empty jiffy postage bag from them in the post with no letter or explanation.

I assume this is to return my old version II box. Strange thing is I wasn't told on the phone or in any communication with O2 that I needed to return my old box.

My old box is in my attic and has been there for 6 months as I used a belkin box, and I would be tempted to keep the old O2 box as a backup.

Anyone experience with O2 and returning old boxes, are they fussy about it or do they send out the jiffy bag in hope rather than expectation that they get the old box back? Can they charge me? if I dont return it. I'm interested to hear from other O2 users who have been in similar situation.

It's all covered by the T&Cs. Don't return the box, they reserve the right to extract £50 from your bank account. Best get yourself down the post office.

Thanks but have any o2 users been charged £50 for not returning it?

I've had the same recently - I was upgraded to The Works package, they sent me the return postage envelope with no explanation letter. I called them to find out what was going on & was told I was being sent a new router.

Your post has just reminded me I've not sent the old box back yet, think I best do if they're going to charge £50 for it....although what's to stop them saying they've not received it if I don't send back Recorded?

I don't know, but do you really want to risk it for the sake of a £10 router?

when did you upgrade?
I think I'll wait for a reminder before I send mine back, can't believe they will just charge without another phone call or email reminder from them, especially as they have not formally asked us to return them..

O2 have pretty good customer service in my opinion and will not want to upset their customers.

About a month or so ago (sorry can't be more exact)...was going to leave them until they offered me 12 months free to stay if I took their phone line for 12 months. Phone & Broadband for £9.50 a month, was great to me since I barely use the home phone anyway!

Had no reminder at all - my bill was £3.67 a few days ago so nothing added there!

If it was a month ago and you have heard nothing I would just leave it then, obviously they are not bothered about getting it back. What use is an old version II box to them anyway?

my boxed failed, just freeze up, anyway after 3-4 phone calls they sent me a new box out and said they would send a jiffy bag out in the post for me to return my old box so the could examine it, that was about 4 months ago and they have still not sent the jiffy bag..

Or they sent it, it never arrived and you haven't thought to call them to ask for another one.

ring them up before they charge you for the new one they sent. I wont be using o2 when the contract expires worst internet connection speeds ive ever had, some days are worse then being on flaming dial up! and they say theres no problem with my line, connection just i use the net too much!
