Virgin far better imo....

Cable far more stable and consistent generally....and you "should" get the advertised speed rather than some nonsense speed from BT

TBH neither, Why not consider 02, BE or even Sky if available?

Virgin very poor cs and massively restrict broadband speed, As do BT although in my experience slightly better cs. BT contract is for 18 month's as well, Not good if it turns out to be naff.

If your on the move then BT hotspots is free I think if your BT unlimited.

neither as well I would say but if its a choice then if its cable area then go for virgin. Otherwise like above go for llu sky o2 and be are all good I have experience of all three and on the whole are reliable and well performing.

Swings and roundabouts really, these days broadband providers should be delivering good speeds, when I joined Sky Broadband I was getting 5mbps, but now I am getting a solid 10mbps, download speeds of 1MB a second!! Which is mental considering what it used to be like! Check out some of the other providers imho!

Thats right, BT advertising them speeds is crazy. They get away with it because they say "up to 20MB" yes if you physically live next door to theie exchange centre.

Go for Virgin, fibre optic. May not hit the top speeds but it will still be far better then BT's old "turning telephone line into highspeed digital line" nonsense

Never had a problem with BT , soon the fibre optic will be available to me so I'm happy.

It comes down to are you bothered about speed really. Virgin cable tends to be faster and more stable for most people than ADSL, even with the traffic management they apply.
#9
Virgin is faster and that's it
Noone can touch the 50mb speeds you can get with virgin and consistently good speed
Plus 100mb coming out soon

Vm all day long /thread

VM if within a cabled area. If VM ADSL then stay as far away as possible. I ended up on double dial up speed for 19 days and they couldn't fix it. within 1 minute of connecting with o2 at the time I had a solid 8mb - maximum for my line.

Now moved back to BT and get 8-12mb depending on general downloading or newsgroups.

I've Got Virgin 50mb very fast , only uploads at 5mb tops though . BBC i player stream of 17000 kbps .

Another vote for Virgin.

I'm on the 50Mbps and my average speed is 49.4Mbps, downloads always hit around 6MB! Like stated upload is 5Mbps but again I always hit that.

But make sure your in a cable area and not ADSL.

Also make sure you sign up online for half price deals and go via Quidco!

Thanks for all advice guys.

How about getting a 3 Sim only on the One plan with 107 TC on a 12 month contract and use it in android 2.2 phone (SF?) as a wifi hotspot?
Not too bothered about speed. Anyone tried this? It will work out 16/month over 12 months. Plus you get 2000 minutes, loads of txt etc.
