photo viewer software?

If she was a real whizz with computers then she would be able to find out no matter what you did, short of you dropping it out the top window. I'm guessing this isn't the case though?

with the browser open hit ctrl + shift + delete together and select everything and click delete or ok

yup and

with the browser open hit ctrl + shift + delete together and select everything and click delete or ok

will do the trick if it's just websites you've been going to but won't she wonder why her entire history has been deleted - I know I would!

I agree this works for firefox too:thumbsup:

you might be better off doing

View --> Explorer Bars --> History

then click on today then right click and delete the ones you've been to.

i know...thats what im worried about but at the moment i have bigger worries. the main things i want to get rid of are some photos i've seen, is there anyway of removing items individually when the 'blue bar' highlights them?

Absolutely, go through each one and delete manually. Much better for you in this case.
#10
oh and click start --> documents and check to see if there are any of the files you've accessed in there - they are just shortcuts so you should be able to right click and delete individual ones again.

Just thinking if they are photo's then they might have opened in another app so may well appear in that recent documents area.

I can see the OP deleting photos rather than the viewing history. Now that will really annoy the daughter.

best leave it as is I reckon. Who checks history logs anyway?
banned#12
I'm not telling you how to parent as everyone does it differently but when my son grows up to have his own computer, that computer will be his on the basis that everything he does on there is subject to my monitoring.

In other words, if I was you, I wouldn't need justification to do this, especially if they had run off.

Not since Incognito mode

i know i can justify looking but i also know how angry she will be if she finds out, esp as some of the photos unfortunately are not to my liking. am just trying to minimise any more upset. if shes not back tonight im going to have to involve the police:-(

Like i said, we each do things differently. I hope she returns safely :)

This sounds extremely dodgy and more like someone has been viewing something they know theyshouldnt have been.

If you have any worries about your daughter call the police, in fact if she's 14 you have a moral duty to do so

However if your worried they might find out what you have been looking at, hence asking for help on removing history, I wouldnt bother because there are many hidden records that do NOT get deleted when you clear the history and it will be found, as will any pictures that have been deleted

If its your daughter and not you who has looked at stuff you shouldnt, then leave it alone, let the police sort it out, or you could end up in trouble for trying to delete it, and getting blamed for doing it

in short leave the laptop alone and call the police

if you dont and something happens to her, how would you feel afterwards
#17
so you are looking through her personal files, and you want to delete them so she does not suspect anything?

Id go around getting your daughter back first and sit down and talk about laptop/items you dont approve of after.

She is only 14, surely she realises that you have to monitor some stuff? Seems too young to be given a free reign on the internet etc without it being checked.

good luck anyway

Is that a clue as to why she ****ed off in the first place maybe?

big assumption me thinks, seems OP doesn't know much about computers so Id say that is probably not a cause
#20
Erm obvious question but as a minor, why have the police not been called already, let them get to the bottom of it, if this is true.............

its in not someone who's been looking at something dodgy, its a concerned mum who's found photos my daughters bfs sent her, which i know whe'd go crazy if she knew id found them. it also feels 'wrong' that ive seen them too if im honest. i know she has been at boyfriends, have been to see her but she refused to leave with me or her father. physically lashing out at us. so we ended up leaving her last night (as her bfs mum agreed) but said if she does not contact us today we have no choice but to call police which im going to do.

errmmm by deleting them i think she will work out you found them :?

because she's been at her bfs! i've been there twice but shes so aggressive his mums said to leave her til she calms down. my ex doesnt want the police involved but as i said she's been given til tonght. i would have called them yesterday but he talked me out of it saying it would make matters worse. im not so sure

So you know where she is then? Or not?

You are the parent not her:? I don't have teens yet, but I would call the police, especially if they are allowing a sexual relationship under that roof, I know most 14 year olds are not innocent, it's still against the law, she is still a child.

She sounds like she is confused and needs help tbh, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

i dont wont to delete actual photos, just the viewing history...never mind....this is upsetting me, feel like im trying to defend myself now but thanks to those who offered help x

i seriously wouldnt worry about deleting your history, i know she is going to be angry you have looked at her stuff, but maybe you need to deal with what is going on, rather than pretending you dont know

+1. I doubt that checking the history on her laptop will be top priority when she gets back.

A few of you seem to be putting the OP on the stand. Can't we give her story the benefit of the doubt without instantly concluding someone is dodgy.
#27
oh dear OP i'm the mum of a 13 year old and i would call the police NOW!!! i would never let my daughter stay at a boyfrineds house at her age! (my daughter has never had a boyfriend, personally i think it is far too young!) i don't know what you're doing creating threads on here when you should be out there getting her home!
my advice would be to stop snooping on laptops and go get her now!

thanks...if im honest im sooo confused, and the reason she's ran is because i was trying to do the right thing. not easy having a teenager, she's my eldest child. i try to set reasonable rules etc but she doesnt agree. its very easy to judge someone who's situation you've never been in sometimes....

Follow MissP's advice (and I think someone else said it) and just go get her. Police or no police, do what you have to.

its fine setting rules but when somone breaks them their need to be consequences that follow, so far your daughter has broken them and her reward is she gets to carry on doing as she likes, staying with her boyfriend etc,etc i would have called the police or dragged her home by the hair, with my temper probably the latter

Seriously, I have 3 kids of my own, if that were my child I would have called the police and asked social services for help and I mean help.

She needs support, she needs looking at, she needs assessing by professionals for mental health issues, it doesn not mean you have failed asking ss for help. It will affect your other kids too.

The best advice I can give you is to not post on here with this sort of thing. A lot of nice people on here but you will get torn to shreds. Expire the thread and log off.

OP please don't torture yourself over looking at the laptop - you're her mother and you have every right to know what's on it - especially in this day and age with all the horror stories you see on the news with teenagers and computers etc. You don't have to justify yourself at all - you just have to get your daughter back home, as hard as they may seem right now. I have 4 girls ranging from 17 to 2 and I can totally sympathise with the mood swings and abuse they give out etc but you have to take control on this one. I'm sure the BFs mother thinks she doing the right in letting her stay there but I know I wouldn't be happy with that. Hope you get this sorted soon x

sorry to sound harsh but honest answer is i have bought both my children up in a way that they are never violent and always respect other people. something has seriously upset that girl and you and her father need to get to the bottom of it, give her lots of love and support and get her some help (councillor etc)
