urgent help needed

hi all, mother has turned her pc off during shutdown (ass) and it cannot boot up now as it seems to have lost a file which can be seen during safe mode boot up. NOW the annoying, we cant find the recovery disk (i see trouble ahead) any ideas what to do? am i wrong in thinking if i can contact microsoft to get a version of xp seeing as i already own a legal version?

Nope any copy will do as long as you have a key, if you boot it from a CD and repair it, should be fine

but i oinly have my dell recovery disc and a recovery disk for an aspire laptop recovery disk which isnt helping :(

Is the Dell recovery disk not a copy of the OS, sorry don't know Dell's stuff, you could try comand prompt then type chkdsk /r takes a while but should repair it

p.s dont be harsh on mum, it happens

The name of the file that's missing - google the file name (and the eror message) for yoru solution.

I'd imagine its NDL/NDR (or something very similar!)

Use another PC to download the missing file, then boot up your Mum's PC in safe mode & copy across the file, then reboot her PC.

You need to make sure than when you boot in safe mode the USB drivers are loaded, otherwise you won' t be able to copy the file across using a memory stick.
