Hey people,

My Acer 5633WLMi which was bought from Tesco has let me down!

I was using it today and running virus checks and adaware thinking giving it a sort out.

However I then thought I might as well download the Microsoft Updates as it kept on giving me the reminders. So I did that around 70ish updates were being downloaded, to which I let the laptop to do its job.

When coming back some timer later to check it, it was standby mode so I tried to switch it on, but then restarted it.

But now whenever I switch on I can only get to the Acer screen which then leads to the Windows messages i.e. due to recent software hardware chane choose a mode.

Start windows in the normal config - when I slelct this it jus goes to a black screen..and has been there for a good 5-10 minutes.

Then when I just press the power button it just switches off.

Then I try start windows normally but when I choose this, it just crashes!!!!

I am getting nervous as really need this to be functional for tomorrow.

So thought why not ask the trusty HUKD members for help.....as I really need it!

Hope to hear from u soon

Sounds like its a service pack problem, you've been doing a major service pack update and your laptops turned itself off halfway through, thus, causing 'half an operating system'

Do you have any discs that came with the laptop?

Hi

Tomm...

No I don't...but if I press alt 10..I can enter the acer recovery program...which when I access boots thru XP but when I enter there recover program only...which its asks restore factory default system or recover system from CD/DVD vackup?

Which one should I choose bearing in mind I want to keep my Docs there!

Short of removing your hard drive to get your files off (this could void any warranty) via your desktop computer, I'm at a bit of a loss I'm afraid, unless someone knows of any programs that may help?

Or shall I just go with Acer Recovery program?

It will restore it to factory default system.

This will not void warranty will it?

Noticed some files which are need have been backed up....so shall I go with it?

as long as you don't need any files it's worth a shot, I think I shall go and do a backup on my laptop:oops:

you could get a linux-based tool cd which will allow you to boot, access your hard drive partition and hopefully transfer the important files across to a USB memory stick, then go ahead with the recovery.

If you have backed up the files that you need, then restore to the factory default system. This will not invalidate your warranty.
