Hoping someone can quickly help me. My bro is in the USA and is looking to buy an ipad. Will the 3g one work over here if he gets a micro sim from a uk mobile company?

Also, they are around $400 so should i get one to?

Thanks

Why do you want one?
Is it 'cos everyone else thinks they are great, or do you have a need for one?

I thought the US one (3G) was locked to AT&T. heard by many it is, could be wrong.

I have one (16GB 3G from UK) and its a great piece of kit, but as phil says, you need a use for it or its just a money wasting gadget.

If you want one get one. Simple, as for will it work over here, of course it will as long as its not locked to a nework(able to be unlocked.)

it's locked to at&t in the US. the 3G is 'exclusive' to them.

I am an Android fan, but I have friends who have an iPad and I've been on one in the Apple store - it really is a very good piece of kit, very fast and fun to use, however I find it hard to justify paying the amount that Apple are stating when I personally can't find a use for it, nothing my laptop can't do.

But credit where credit is due.

If he is going to be bringing it through customs he might want to be aware of what customs may snag you for VAT wise.

I know some people used to buy macbooks in the USA then post the boxes back to the UK separately so the they didn't look new if the customs people had a look.
