I bought a Dell 1545 in January and now the USB ports don't seem to be working. It has 3 and I've tried all 3 with my camera and with my USB memory stick thing. When I plug in my camera it says 'USB Error' and neither of the removable disk things come up in My Computer when either things are plugged in.

Am I being a computer idiot or do I have to take this back to the shop?

Doesn't sound good. I've been looking at getting a Dell 1525 last few days. Cheers for the vote of confidence! :(

I am looking at device manager...it is not telling me anything. There are none of those little yellow exclamation mark things by the USB stuff.

Try re-installing the USB drivers;

Open control panel>System>device manager>Universal Serial Bus controler, right click and open properties> drivers.

How do I reinstall them? I've just checked for updates and it says everything's up to date.

If I do go and take it back tomorrow, what's the chances they'll give me another one? (It's from PC World) Or will they just take it in for repair or something?

What kinda money did you spend on your Dell AF? Are their machines any good(besides this blip) and how do they rate up against others you've used?

I fancy that 1525 model with the Bluray drive.

I'm probably not really the person to ask about comparing stuff, I know ace bought one after I told him to though, haha.

I spent £399 on it, had a Toshiba Satellite thing before (I think) which was about 3 years old so this is obviously much better. It's a good speed and everything seems to work fine. Like I said, probably not the best person to ask because I don't use it for more than internet/dvds/word processing stuff, but it seems good to me!

Yeah I'm not all that up with laptops etc. My current one is a 2004 HP Pavilion - or ultimate behemoth as I call it.

Got like 256mb of RAM, 19" screen and weighs a ton! :(

No need to rep me for the free bumpage sweetie :)
