Usb ports on Hifis are for reading from memory cards, thumbdrives or Harddrives ,To connect to your PC or the internet you would need a HIfi with a network connection or you can use a network playback device like the WD TV live and connect to your hifi,

ohh i see - so just cos the features on the hifi say USB doesnt mean that it will connect to the pc ? Does it have to specify PC USB ?

You just need to run a 3.5mm headphone jack to phono plugs cable.

Any Hi-Fi with an 'Aux' or similar input will suffice.

I havent seen any that will let you connect to a PC through USB,The usb port is simply a reader for media,To connect to a PC you would need one with a ethernet port and connect by network cable or wifi, You can just buy one with Usb and put your music on a thumbdrive or memory card and play from there,

Yeah lol, as above ,Sometimes the easiest option is the best

if the main thing you want to be able to do is listen to music from the pc on your hifi why not just connect the speakers to pc or get one of those audio cable things, sorry forget the name lol but it doesnt require usb

edit: what jtx said lol

'Aux in' is your best bet... My hifi has the ipod dock which I use my iPhone in, then the Aux in port that I just use a double ended 3.5mm jack which I connect to my laptop by plugging into the headphone socket - works a treat :-).

Most of them do, but it's best to check within the specification - just incase ;-) !
