I have just paid over £300 for a water pump, £600 for tyres and now the car has been vandalised and has been left with two nasty dents in the side and on the bonnet. I have protected NCD and therefore could make a claim but my excess is £800; which I would need to borrow or put on credit card. A quote for replacement panels etc comes in at £1800, the dents cannot be repaired

Question. Do I leave the dents as they are and try to sell the car as is, perhaps at a much reduced price or stump up £800 and sell the car in a perfect state.

Go find a half-decent bodyshop and offer them readdies. Where do you live?
#2
You must be gutted, is nothing safe anymore.

If it were me, I would replace the panels especially as you are going to find it difficult to sell the car anyway in the current climate.

Good luck

Charming! I know how you feel, have just paid for a major service, new tyres and 2nd turbo fitted and some scroat has keyed my car., Depending on the damage, some dings might be able to be pulled out by one of the mobile dent repairing companies. Or you might be able to get used panels rather than new.
#4
If you repair it what's to say the same will not happen again as soon as it's done.

Do you think it was malicious and directed at you or just a random attack?

its a car, not a babys head.

Sucks though. Where was it done?

I would suggest that if you can afford to run a porsche i.e. £600 for tyres and £300 for water pump that £800 for excess is certainly affordable and worth paying to ensure the job is completed properly.
#11
that is terrible, I remember a famous actor saying he lives in the US because if you make it in this country they just love to 'knock you down', if you have a really nice car in this country they try and scratch /mark
it because they are jealous , but in the usa if you are famous they applaud youand want to be like you and if you have a nice car they appreciate it and generally would not harm it - this is all his saying not mine and it was Michael Caine

I sometimes wonder at the words people think are appropriate.
#13
If you're going to sell it either way, perhaps you can try an ad for it as is, and see if there are any takers. if not then get it repaired.

you might find it easier to sell it to a bargain hunter who thinks that they can repair it.

That's awful why would anybody do anything like that?:x
#15
I'm sure if you ask around you'll be able to find someone local to you who can repair your bodywork much cheaper & get it looking great in order to sell for a good price.
IMO it would be worth getting it done first.
#16
yeh i agree with beekeeper go and get someone to do it cheaper thats what we did with ours and all in it cost us 300 and no one knew it had been damaged in the first place(like insurance company) and ours was quit bad all along the side needing 2 panels and other bits along the side and front bumper

Sorry but looking at things you are not a mod, and therefore I'll direct away.

Having said that, looking at your reaction to a damaged car you'll probably be unable to cope with such blatant disregard to your 'rules'

I'm so sorry! I'm so awful! PMSL.

if you got a porsche, surely you got a grand for repairs??

Whether or not anyone can afford such a repair doesn't mean that they deserve it?

I've got a mate with a Lotus, but that's what he chooses to spend his money on. ;-)

If this was a random attack, I'd be gutted. :x

lol to be fair mate..post back when your porsche has been vandalised for no reason

I managed to get the car from a mate, it was her company car. All she wanted was the finance paid off, £12500 which I calculated was no more than a Ford Focus at the time. I used my mothers life insurance payout to get the car with the intention of selling it for a profit. However, I got addicted and couldn't part with it, however, the ongoing repairs are much more than I ever anticipated having to spend. My credit cards are getting a real battering. I was going to use it for this Summer, top down ! and then sell it. I can assure you that my next car will certainly be more modest. At least my name appears on the log book of Porsche - materialist I know, but once in a while it's a treat.
#28
How much is the car worth? Is it on finance? Can you afford to take an £800 drop on it?

Awful for you hon, so sorry. Some people are so terrible to do stuff like this.

I'd still pay to have the car fixed before selling it on because with those awful dents etc you are gonna get really marked down for it, I'm sure you know that.

Such awful luck. Hope you get better luck soon x x x

A quick scan of Auto Trader / What Car is promising at £14,950
#32
If you intended to sell it on for a profit, then you should still have scope to cover all your costs and sell?

True.

put it like this, in that condition id want 3k off the going price for the hassle of getting it sorted myself, far wiser to get it fixed mate

It's hardly a crime to own a porsche, but a very expensive commitment.

Phone your' nearest BCA .. http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk/Default.aspx?page=10723

Tell them that you are "considering" putting your car through one of their their auctions and you would like a ball park figure that you could expect.

Damage like the pic you posted won't effect the price of a car like that too much.

If you provide the year, model and mileage, they will give you a price based on similar recent sales.

It will put you in the picture, and might even still be more than you paid

Good Luck.

Op, please tell us the kind of Porsche it is. Boxter/911/944?
Where do you live? Someone here may know a bodyshop or repairer near you.
#38
Those dents can be popped out, it wouldnt look perfect ,but would look a lot better.

Have a look in your yellow pages under dent repair etc, some people offer a service where they will come out to your place of work / home and replair it for you!
