This is worrying .....

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ) revealed test results showing pork products contaminated with a livestock strain of the antibiotic-resistant ‘superbug’ MRSA, being sold at Asda and Sainsbury’s.

This isn't the same as the extremely dnagerous MRSA bug which kills hundreds of people in UK hospitals every year, however, it is still dangerous, especially for those who are already ill or have compromised immune systems. It is known to have been responsible for at least six deaths in Denmark,

Hopefully we're not on the verge of another food scandal. It may make me think twice about choosing pork

The Guardian, working with the Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ), has also established that a loophole in import regulations is leaving an open door for MRSA CC398-infected live pigs from countries such as Denmark, where the disease is rife.


People could catch the bug from infected meat if it is not cooked properly, so if you are buying pork, be extra careful.

Without action to halt it, the spread of the bug could follow the pattern in Denmark, where MRSA CC398 became established over a decade, now afflicts about two-thirds of pig farms and is viewed as a major public health crisis, with 12,000 people believed to have contracted it. Currently, there is no screening programme for MRSA CC398 on British farms.

I've just been on a bacon diet - 3 days (so far) of trying to eat meat and 2 (or more) veg because I went a bit crazy and had 3 days of bacon eating (fry ups and egg & bacon on almost burnt toast)... I was in heaven for sure but now having to pay the price

3 samples of 97 tested positive, How positive? What possible effect can this have on people if they follow basic food hygiene or simply by buying British? You can import live pigs yes but how frequently is this done when there are large pork markets in both countries?

In my opinion there's not enough details to warrant significant concern, it should be of course monitored. Plus it's funded in part by Big Organic so there will naturally be some fearmongering.

Is this like the chicken where the danger was the bugs were on the outside of the packaging and since we live in a country of reusable bags now that makes it even worse.

I have not heard of that there is an accountability department in Government's plastic bag reuse scheme to count the number of death due to infected reused plastic bags nor any policy statement in joined up thinking between Environment and Health departments. The chicken raw juice leaks and outside wrapping is an obvious one that's been "bugging" me. I suspect the answer is, when in doubt don't reuse, or instead buy the normal bags in £1land etc. and use these (to line inside) as they work out 1-2p per bag.

Without a doubt, health and hygiene workers get through plastic bags and gloves like no tomorrow for obvious reason of cross contamination and infection.

It is still safer to buy it than other meats if you don't want halal meat.

1. Promote vegetarinism and veganism as healthy
2. Promote Muslim culture as benign and peaceful
3. Never let facts get in the way of a biased story.

You might get ill from not cooking food correctly is news?

I can't remember what it is but there are some items that require a free bag, I see it in asda, the till assistant gets small clear bags out and bags some items I think its things like fish counter they should do the same with the raw meat maybe just have bag dispensers in the aisle like with the fruit and veg
