Woooo

East Coast Railways takes over from tomorrow and is government owned. Can only be better than the NXEC lot. Shame GNER couldn't have come back though.

I used to be a customer service manager with GNER. They were a fantastic company to work for and the perks were out of this world - free ferry travel throughout Europe and of course the free rail travel too - for family and friends.

Its a shame how its all changed though and I agree, if GNER were still there things would be a lot better

GNER were good - just a shame Sea Containers ended up going down the pan a bit tbh.

Lets just hope East Coast bother to have some decent branding unlike the NXEC mishmash of GN/NX pap.

I never understood why people used them, well at least from newcastle to london. On the few times I checked tickets, first class was going on for £400 return, grand central first class from sunderland is only £101 return

correct, i didn't :)

I just had a quick look, travelling from sunderland - london first class 24th dec and returning 28th (a friend is going those dates)
grand central first class off peak return £101 (or anytime return £190)
national express (or whoever is running it now) first class any time return (they don't do an off peak) £375

Why would anyone pay an extra £274 for what is essentially the same service :?

If you were travelling from newcastle, even if you got a taxi from newcastle to sunderland and then back again it would still only be around £140 total

Nope I work locally, but down in London a lot, and trains are the best way.

GNER didn't actually lose that much money did it? It's just Sea Containers did! GNER seemed local and cool... NXEC was far too corporate.

90 mins to go!!!!

cant see it really making a difference to me i reguarly book in advance and got the £9/11 1 way fares from london to leeds and vice versa......£20 for first class occasionally

my only gripe was that it was a tenner admin charge to make a change via the internet

had the email from them and they are sending me a 50% off first fare for travel between jan- mar
