Obviously I'm not really rubbish at computers, I'm amazing at computers. Probably the best on this forum. However, I'm also lazy.....

This seems the best for the price...

(for collection at the weekend - not interested in dell etc etc)

Yes / No

Only thing I'm not sure about is the i3... I know its new, I know its midrange/low range, which is fine, but is it any good.

It's not for me. For a mate. Doesn't need it for gaming, but would like a bit of future-proofing, so that seems like a good inbetween machine.

Does it have a colour monitor and a CD drive? If so, you should be fine. Most modern games run off CD and are also in full colour.

You might also want to see if it comes with speakers so you can listen to music (via the CD drive) and some games also have sounds.

Also check that it comes with a "modem." This is a device for connecting your PC to a phone (it's actually short for "modular external messaging") Using one of these devices you can connect to other PCs around the world and "chat" to fellow computer lovers.

Certainly. A CD or “coloured-disc” to give it its full name is a storage format used by modern computers. Its name comes from the fact that the plastic on the disc causes a colourful rainbow type effect if held up to the light.

A modern CD can hold up to 100MB of data (that’s enough space to store 1,000,000,000 books or 14 episodes of Coronation Street)

Once inserted into the drive, a small needle reads the data off the disc and sends the information via a small wire to the hard disk drive. The needle is often referred to as a “laser” an acronym of “Long and short electrical reader”

You guys are great.

1.44mb? That sounds like an awful lot of space. Will I need that much? I also want music.

Make sure it has one of those coffee mug trays too.

well it does have a needle to play these new fangled CD's so it will play some vinyl records

i3 is a decent chip. There is no such thing as 'future-proofing' - its just a question of whether it is showing its age in 12 months or 24 months.

Hes only gonna want to do desktop stuff, so anything is future proofed to a certain extent.

Seems like the i3 is quite highly thought of though which is good.

price seems more than reasonable too for the system. £329.

dont forget to add your OS which will add £65.

I don't need to.

Its good for what it is but its not future proof as it only 2 slots for memory. so wont be able to add additional DIM unless you change the whole lot

He won't need more than 4gb for the life of the system.
#19
Thats fair enough. Than the system should be fine

Not really an issue only having 2 slots.

Could still have 8gb ram in that which is enough for a while.
