Here is a good website where you can get cards so as to warn restaurants etc of your allergy

http://www.selectwisely.com/selectwisely/products/cards/food_allergy/fc000018.htm

Even better print you own I suppose with their translation!

Specialist website here;

It might be worth having a chat with your doc and seek their advice. My concern if I was in your situation is that Vietnam healthcare is not great at all you. However if you take the relevant precautions you should be grand.

i've also got a severe nut allergy. not been to vietnam (not yet) but i have been to thailand and indonesia a few times, both of which use nuts in a lot of their food.

i've always had a note translated into local language explaining my allergy and asking them not to put any nuts in the food, not to use nut oil, don't use utensils that have touched nuts etc. i've never had a problem, in fact i even ordered a peanut curry in thailand, without peanuts!

my advice is to go, have fun and never regret it. my experience of south-east asians is that they would fall over themselves to help you. as long as you are sensible you should be fine. as a last resort, there's always macdonalds! just make sure you take several copies of the note, make them small enough to put in your wallet. and as a precaution, maybe have another note saying you have had nuts and are having a reaction and ask them to call an ambulance. just make sure you give them the right note!

Ok thanks , seems the notes will be a good idea.
