This is a review of Virgin Broadband in Australia, not Virgin Media in the UK, and the device/service they are reviewing isn't available here. :?

I was with Telewest, now Virgin Media, and on the whole have been pleased with the service. Haven't had that many problems with it at all. Having said that, I am not a massive downloader.

They do throttle traffic though for those that are big downloaders. Here is their info on it.

This is an article on the three strikes thing being implimented.

I use virgin broadband through BT line so not the cable version. Had the 1meg for 2 years running well and just upgraded to the 8Meg. Good customer service and very very reliable, in fact I've never had an issue connecting. No contracts and I got a free netgear wireless router when I upgraded despite telling the lady I already had one, she said I may as well take something for nothing (I admire the honesty).

Don't touch tiscali with a giant bargepole. Unreliable service and the most useless customer service imaginable.

They might be bringing in the 3 strikes thing. But thats only for those who illegally download lots of stuff. Hopefully they wont implement it.

The chances are all ISPs will end up implimenting it or something similar in order to avoid the government making it manditory.

I have the 20mb cable, I had problems a few months ago with my speeds but now it's all fine. If i want to download large files (over 3gb on xl package) I just do it outside of the 4pm-9pm hours so I don't get traffic managed. All in all they are good, be on the ball and ring them up to ask about new offers, a reduction in your bill or tell them you are off to sky! You should get a reduction of some sorts :) They will never contact you to let you know whats on offer.

I have a friend who went onto the adsl virgin package because she didn't have cable and she's had lot's of problems with it, they are moving into a cable area soon though so she's jumping for joy because she wants the same speeds as me lol

Thats definetly because you are using P2P programs for downloading. There are a lot of better service providers-like BeThere;-no limits, free to use P2P,great speeds,no problems at all with connection. If it is not available at your area-Tiscali or O2. So i think it is not the best ISP for those who downloading a lot.

I think VM are so stupid implementing the 3 strikes system as many of the customers have their broadband only becuase its fast and stable for downloading music and films etc. If they implement it then I will probably change to Sky broadband.

As the article I posted said, the chances are all ISPs will impliment this or something similar by next year or the Government will step in and do something.

Just because you use P2P doesn't mean your downloading illegal content, lots of programs use P2P to dleiver legal content. Also not all stuff downloaded via limewire etc is copywrighted. Another stupid idea from the Labour government, possible back hander from the BPI? I'm not a CPW/Talk Talk fan but they seem to have issued a decent statement on the matter.

Hi,

can anyone tell me the best package or simply just broadband if I dont have, and dont want a bt landline,

Virgin Media?

I would prefer just broadband but if the prices are not much different I would'nt mind a few extra channels too

depends what speed you want
At the moment you can get 20mb broadband, telephone line and basic tv for £31 a month
Or above with 2mb bb insteda of 20 for £15.50 a month
You don't have to take the phone line but the prices are lower if you do than if you don't!
