Are you sure it is going up? I'm sure they have just dropped the broadband prices, today in fact.

I've just upgraded to 20mb and the only way I can get a good download speed is if I download multiple files at the same time through flashget, if I do a speedtest I get about 1mb/s =/

I am the same, maxes out my connection if I am using using newsgroups i get full speed but using speedtest I get like 4/5mb they are apparently unreliable for some of us.

As for deals if might be better to phone and haggle for a new deal, it seems to depend on who you talk to the reductions can vary. Keep ringing until you get a better price.

Is there a certain number to ring?

Call retentions department and see what they can offer you if you state you're thinking of leaving, they might bring the price down or may offer you a good value bundle but they're there to help you remain a customer.

In my experience, for high download (up to 24mbs) AND upload speeds of of 1-2mbs (compared to Virgin's pathetic 128kbs) and superior Customer services, Be Unlimited is the best. Well OK best I have been with. If you have speed issues, they work very hard to resolve quickly without frustrating you with repetitive tests and making you reset you browser setting etc and you can go online to review the tickets and update it yourself even whereupon they respond back quickly. In comparison, I have been with BT, and Tiscali and their customer services and broadband performance SUCKS. And Virgin sales are no better as I tried to apply for their broadband too and they spoke like robots ignoring all my important questions (such as "what is your upload speed?" answer: "Our download speed are the fastest in the country".

Go here to review different Broadband services. This is the best website to assess current broadband performances. When looking at ratings make sure you check the sample ratings because some could be too small and not very reflective. As I suggest though, check out Be's reviews, you'll see they are far more impressive than the big competitors.

Only the 50meg bb price changed today.

And whats more, Be Unlimited uses an free phone number for all enquiries, technical etc. So you dont need to use Saynoto0870.

I hate all the companies that forces us to use these 0870/0871 numbers. They're bullies. I'll boycott any company that does this unless there is no other choice!! Be Unlimited is £13.99 per month for 8mbs download and 1.2mbs upload. Unlimited downloads. £17.99 gives you 24mbs and 1 fixed IP adress. Not the cheapest but I think great value for peace of mind.

End of rant ;) Hate Virgin, hate Tiscali, hate BT, hate hate....! you have idea how much misery they caused me...ok ok I'll stop ;)
