Virgin Media Bill £210 for a month!

Wow that just amazed me!

£210? Thats like whole years worth and its all from stupid access numbers my parents use to ring Bangladesh / International Countries!

They charge 4p a minute but because they're like a 0845 number virgin have their own charge for that too!

Anyways time for me to leave Virgin Media.

I need some ideas, I need a new BT line to get things like o2 etc,
but are there any good deals where i'd get unlimited landline and broadband?

Are talk talk any good? They have a really good offer, just quite confused on whether the speeds will be reliable.

I'd also need to keep my old number, but the connection fee's are a killer!

Help would be appreciated.

The Post Office are very competitive and have free 0845/0870 evening and weekend calls if that's any good to you :)

but you're wrong. VM charge a one off connection fee of 10p per call for 0845 numbers, not 4p a minute.

Why not just add the Talk International option for £1.50 a month instead??

Bangladesh is 89p a minute standard, only 6p a minute with the Talk International option!

You must have money to throw away!

They are free, all 0845/0870 etc numbers have to have a landline number due to health and safety
reasons, eg 999 calls, so if you have free land line calls on your package like me you don't pay anything, you can get the numbers via this link www.saynoto0870.com/search.php

Tue 22 Dec 16:06 Spec Serv 08445660566 27:00 £2.20
If the call is at 4p a minute = 27 minutes is 108 p which is £1.48 where did the rest come from?

Then theres this

Sun 17 Jan 14:08 Spec Serv 08445660566 41:00 £3.30

Which is another 14 minutes longer than the previous but another £1.10 more?

I got stung with a £260 bill once for 0845 number, total pain.

Now use 0870 every time, my additional calls from my last bill for example wass £3 ;)

So which numbers are free on Virgin?

Are 0870/0845 free?
#17
if they are using a calling card and calling an 0845 number that they then call the international number through check out the company. used to work for orange and there were some calling cards where they called a uk mobile number which they then used to call internationally. basically using inclusive mins to make international calls. mobile companies soon clicked on and started charging the mobile uk number as international. customers were not happy as suddenly got massive bills. just worth a thought.

You're right, my mistake.

VM can't do it free because BT charge them the 10p price!

Virgin is a killer for the telephone. Great for tv and broadband but horrific call charges.

My last month's bill was £138 and my tv,bb, line rental is £25 so £118 in calls :(
#21
Call charges are horrible, i think im gonna switch to BT

Or should i wait for O2? Or will there be a new connection charge again?
#22
hi brother you should take the anytime 800 minute for £29 a month will incude calls to mobile and landline worldwide. I wa like your parent calling back home throught them ripoff 0845 numbers, my bill was about £180 a month, but know I am taking control of it.

Talk talk are fantastic, I've had them for 5 years, most people I know have them, I get 18.5 meg from them, wouldn't consider anyone else. Great price aswell.

but they don't do TV and you only get 18.5meg because you live so close to the exchange!
#24
Is Skype an option?
#25
dcx_badass
Yeah but have I ever had a £210 bill?

how would I know??
#26
VM call charges are not comparable to BT for access numbers. I've had £265 once and around £100 regularly.

I don't use the house phone to make calls because I have three mobile phones. One Blackberry (for business calls), one iPhone (for entertainment/mates/girlfriend) and one HTC (for football/general use).

My LAST bill with Virgin Media was over £300 cause my daughter decided to go on a spree ringing 3 mobiles which Virgin cost a fortune on.There only answer for 3 mobiles calls costing so much was to take the Mobile call plan even then they are still more compared to other phone providers.

Even though my services stopped with them on 21st january they are chasing an unpaid bill for services in february and are even threatening to restrict my service. The mind really does boggle how a company could be so stupid. Virgin great on Technical absolutley rubbish on customer supprt.

0845/0870 are included in your call time with BT. Access numbers are not included though.

Switch back to BT if this appeals.
BT Phoneline £11.54 (direct debit paper free billing)
Anytime plan £4.99(all uk landlines, most 0845 + 0870 included half price mobile calls)
BT Broadband £15.99 - £24.99

Once broadband is set up use the additional line you get to phone abroad
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=27273
Will work out a lot cheaper. 5.3p to landlines 8.8p to mobiles

Max connection charge of £50 although ask for free connection and see what they say.
