I'm currently on the retention bundle with Virgin Media (XL Phone, L Broadband, XL TV) for £39/m. I understand that there are several people who'd be very happy with this package, but I'm working 45+ hours a week at the moment so I would like to downgrade my TV (to freeview) and because I'm on a special offer I lose my discount!

I have spoken to Virgin Media about this but seeing as they wouldnt budge I told them I'd like to cancel my contract (due to go off on the 24th). To be honest VM is the best option for me, BT / ADSL works out to be much more expensive. At first I thought fine I'll call in a few days before they disconnect my services and tell them I've changed my mind, but now I've seen the quidco cashback for VM I'm having second thoughts, perhaps I can sign up again after they have disconnected me?

Anyways I'd like any feedback HUKD has to offer, rep for all help. All help is appreciated.

Zak.

I am on the XL package which costs £53...But I do have fast internet and unlimited call to one hour anywhere which I like having a Teenage Daughter. I have XL television and the box is in the garage because we use Freeview and a Motor dish. Even though I don't want it they won't reduce my costs...IMO they are still the best as BT etc can't offer fast Broadband and the Phone is not as cheap so I have stayed with them. I have also tried to cancel but I can't get the benefits any cheaper...Hope this sort of helps...Summary stay where you are

I'm with VM & decided like you to cancel my TV & just use freeview. I tried sometime after to take out the TV package offer again when they were doing a price promotion... But they wanted to charge for instalation!! Even though I'm still connected, using the broadband & the cable is still there behind my TV, I just gave them the box back.
All they have to do is give me a new box & switch me on, I tried to explain this to their customer service rep, but to no avail - they still wanted an instalation charge. This just made the whole deal seem expensive again, so I just gave up & stuck to the freeview.

So if you do decide to take out a new deal beware of an instalation charge.

OK I thought I'd customise a deal and see how my current services with VM compare.

BT Landline (Free Installation) £11.25 line rental + £4.95 Talk Unlimited
O2 8Mb Broadband (5.5Mb for me as I'm not too close to the telephone exchange) - £7.50
Freeview Box (I already have one)

Total yearly cost - (£23.70 x 12) = £284.40 ( - £60 O2 Broadband cashback) = £224.40

Total monthly cost - £18.70

Also, as everyone knows O2 broadband is probably one of the best right now, I can qeue up my downloads in the morning and come back expecting it to consistently download at around 600kb/s (on a 5.5Mb connection).

When you put it like this, my current deal is crap really. But still, I'd have to run around chasing up BT first, then O2 etc, so I would prefer if I stay with VM. If I give retentions a call, and explain this, how would you expect them to respond? Calling THEM after I'VE cancelled my services seems a bit eager..

I pay them (now) £33.50 a month thats for XL TV (I have V+ too), 10mb BB, m phone

We pay £19.50 ( i think) for XL phone (unlimited landline calls 24/7) and L (10Mb) broadband.

That would be ideal for me, but I told him about the deal posted above and he said the best he could do is XL BB, XL Phone ( + M TV) for £37/m. What a rip off. How long have you been a customer with them?

we've had VM, Sky and BT. VM works out the cheaper option but their customer service is so bad we have BT /sky.

Cust service been ok for me at VM (as long as you dont get through to indian call centre who I really struggle to understand and vice versa). Dont like sky as after a year you dont get a guarantee on the box

Totally agree, VM customer services has been shocking in my experience. My brother had such difficulties disconnecting he had to get my dad (solicitor) to write a letter on headed paper (they then of course rolled over). My housemate also complained about how slow our broadband was so they upgraded us and it turned out we'd been put on a new contract without telling us! We are cancelling next month when we move out and just hoping that they don't cause more trouble.

But complaints aside, in response to the OP, if you're happy with VM I'd just stick with them if they offer the best deal and you can't be chuffed with the hassle of switching xx

In the last 6 months I have phoned VM twice to see if they could reduce our package price (the "are you thinking of leaving us" option). Both times told, they couldn't reduce price and we were to take it or leave it.

So, bearing in mind the BT phone & O2 BB combination, we are leaving them. When I phoned them to tell them this, they asked if they could review our package price - I said too late as had already given them chances in the past.

Lo and behold, they have spent the last few days trying to get hold of my husband. He spoke to them last night and they said they could offer L phone, L TV and 10mb BB for £38/month which is less than what we are currently paying. They think this is a great offer - what a joke - we currently pay £42 for XL phone, L tv and 10mb BB - so we will save £4 a month but only because they will reduce the phone package. If I had any doubts beforehand, I certainly don't now.
