Hi ive currently got a digihome 180gb freeview recorder but it keeps crashing and isnt really great, im thinking of returning it and subscribing to virgin media xl package - i would buy a new freeview recorder but tbh i want hd tv and a freeview recorder the only choice for this is freesat and with a recorder its £200 min

SO my question is if you subscribe to virgin hd whats it like is it worth £21.50 a month, does the bbc iplayer work well , is virgin on demand good ?,and finally whats the hd box like for reliability and what kind of memory size does it have e.g gb?

Also it costs £21.50 but do you HAVE to take the £11 month phoneline ontop costing £32.50 in total?

I've not used the HD box but their on demand service was always very good.

You should have a look here;

Do you watch enough TV to warrant paying extra £'s /month + TV License etc?
Can't you watch your Favourites on t'web?
If the answer to both questions above is Yes just get it. Otherwise think about whether you'd be better off spending the £'s on something more worthwhile, like books.

I have had the V+ box for about a month now - it has replaced my TIVO.

Good points:
80hrs of SD recording (less for HD recordings)
Can record 2 progs while watching a third
Much better box than the old Pace units which were slow and crashed alot - The EPG is usable and has one-touch series record

Bad Points:
Has crashed once already
Limited live HD broadcasts (but quite a lot of on-demand HD progs - eg.sopranos, The Blue Planet)

Overall, I am very pleased with it

I watch quite a lot of tv
My hub is my tv and watching tv on my comp isnt ideal as my net isnt fantastic and doesnt always work

Thing is i dont want to be paying £32.50 a month for tv just because i have to take the phone line seems a bit unfair basically the thing that is attracting me to virgin +_ hd xl is
Free setanta sports
bbc i player
itv player
virgin on demand
hd channels possible

Going to cost me £150 fore a anew freeview box so why not spend a little extra and get something great
Do you need a satellite dish installed, how is the tv broadcast cant be literally through a phoneline can it

yer u have to have phone check their website
To get any of our TV packages you'll need a Virgin Phone line which costs £11 a month - you'll also get unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines. And with fibre optic cable, there’s no need for a BT line.
no theirs no dish

Thinking of a switch to virgin but I watch NHL on Setanta (Espn America) on Sky channel 417. Is this the same as Virgin XL channel 533?
