so, got the phone line from Virgin installed, now I need handset.

I'm thinking of this one:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-KX-TGA661EB-Additional-Handset-KX-TG6621EB/dp/B004XV9OMC/

2 questions, will it work on VM?

from what I checked, practically any DECT phone out there should, but then I read:

"I have sussed this out! Most cordless phones use the four pin phone lead, VM sockets only use two pin, so I have purchased a Siemens Gigaset SL400A cordless phone which has a two pin lead. The Siemens phone works a treat as it uses bluetooth for the wireless signal and therefore does not require all four pins on the socket. The phone was £170 which I wouldnt have needed to spend if I was still with BT so not happy with that, although very happy with the outcome. I think VM should warn people about this potential problem before they sign up."

I never knew there is any difference in pinout. so how is it?

and secondly, will it work as a standalone unit, even if it says "Additional Handset for KX-TG6621EB Family" ?

I think it should, right?

or any other cheap cordless phone you'd recommend?

If it is an additional handset then it is an extra to be used with an existing system from the same range.

It therefore will not work on its own without the base, it is for people who want extra phones with their original handset and base.

just get one of these

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/m-s-solas-1520-dect-cordless-single-phone-with-answer-machine-only-7-60-collect-1283070

and never use VM for outgoing calls as the call / connection charges are horrific. Use a PAYG mobile for calls.

Unless of course you have ANYTIME free calls package

what about this one? that MS is sure cheap, but looks awful.

I only got the phone line, as my broadband package is cheaper with it, I don't plan on using it really - apart from receiving calls, 0800 numbers and calling VM CS.

surely being half the price and having an answer machine is more important than what it looks like, especially if you dont really plan to make calls on it........... oO

personally, the M&S one looks far better than the argos one anyway :)

you are actually right, just had a look around, and with decent ones with answering machine, it would be £25+

I'm getting the MS phone, the price, even without the voucher, is still good enough.

and it seems like it'll do the job just fine.
