Has virgin media customer service changed a lot recently?

I just have M Broadband for which i have been paying £10 a month for a few years... noticed recently its gone up to about £18. Usually when this has happened i just call them (which has always been uk based call centre) and they re-apply the discount no problem.

Tried calling tonight, got Indian call centre and he wouldn't do any discounts, only offered to upgrade me to L 10Meg for free (which will be happening for everyone soon anyway...!)

Wondered if there is a separate number for uk retentions dept, or shall i just call again and say i want to leave...

Keep trying...I've had some great deals from companies when I keep trying after the first couple attempts are complete failures. :)

I take it you receive free line rental as well for the £18 (standard price).

How do you receive your internet connection without a phoneline? :?

then you are paying far too much. I get line rental, talk weekend free call plan and 10mb BB for £18.50 per month (just gone up from £15). This is the most I have ever paid and have been with them 10+ years.

its cable so phone connection will be there but just not connected to a phone.

Cable internet = filtered coax cable running from your house via street ducting to local cabinet cable

ADSL Internet = broadband in a specific frequency range on your phoneline to special equipment in an exchange.
ADSL Guide:

Virgin Media (Cable) does not use ADSL.

We are leaving them after repeatedly trying to get our package reduced. Since I confirmed cancellation (moving to BT) we have literally been bombarded with calls from Virgin, offering to better our package price. To be honest their recent attempt (anytime calls and 10mb BB for £22.95) did tempt us - for about 5 mins. However, as soon as this offer finishes, they will only bump up the price again, hence we will give our custom to someone else.
If phoning, you need to contact Virgin using the "are you thinking of leaving us" option.

just go straight to retentions and say you are switching to BT and want to cancel. Persevere!

I went to about day 25 of my 30 day cancellation period, and then they called me offering a great deal.

last night there was no options like there used to be (ie press 1 for faults...etc) just went straight through.
will ask for retentions
