Virgin Media To Launch Virgin 1 Channel On 1st October

Virgin Media are launching a channel named "Virgin 1" on the 1st october. Which is expected to rival Sky One. Virgin 1 channel will be available "On Demand" on Virgin Media TV. The Virgin1.co.uk website is also set to launch on the 1st october.

Virgin Media has been on a commissioning and acquisition spree ahead of the launch, buying up The Riches, starring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard; The Sarah Connor Chronicles; the Star Trek franchise; and Crime Invasion: Britain's New Underworld, which looks at the rise of foreign gangs in UK organised crime.

The channel will be available on Freeview, satellite and cable and Virgin Media's catch-up TV, previews and exclusive content will also be available online.

The new channel, which has a wide selection of programmes that includes newly commissioned, acquired programming, user generated content and hit shows from Virgin Media TVs pay-TV channels LIVING, Bravo, Challenge and Trouble.

"Virgin 1" will replace FTN on Freeview from 6pm-6am until more bandwidth can be found, and 24 hours on cable and satellite (after discussions with Sky).

PS - I think there will be a Virgin 1 +1 channel too.

Check out the TV guide for next week and see you will see some classics as well as recent shows. So hello channel 20 on freeview

Deep Space Nine from Emissary is one show to kick off; Fresh Prince of Bel Air; Knight Rider; The Unit and we can still watch Takeshi's Castle

The Riches is very good, it's a shame two very good British actors have to put on American accents though.

Expected more series to be announced though

Five just announced Californication which is very funny.

Lots of new and renewed TV series are out US Side, I expected VM to secure some of them:

My fave so far is "Back to You" Kelsey Grammar, star from Frasier.

I'm so glad that were not loosing takeshi's castle!

Dont they have alot of Street Crime UK on Bravo?

I found all those crime shows very good when they first came out. Now there just repeated to much and are boring.

Oh no! They can't get rid of FTN. I was absolutely sure they were going to show every episode of The X Files. Looks like I'll only get to see the conclusion of Season 1 now :-( Virgin One should generally be a better channel though - FTN is shocking these days anyway.

Virgin 1 seems alright.

But, if Virgin are trying to rival Sky.. Isn't it pretty stupid of them to put it on Sky, too? :/

Sky recently offered to buy Virgin 1 for showing on Sky.

Thats what Virgin Media were waiting for!

Not sure if Virgin 1 is gunna be on Sky for a limited time (like Sky One was on Virgin Media)

Have you looked at the listings? If thats the best Virgin can do then shame on them! What a load of old ****!! As for Virgin rivalling Sky One, yeah right, in their dreams!

Don't Sky spend 99.63% of their annual budget on The Simpsons and Lost anyway?

Some of it is excellent, and the only stuff i like on Sky One is the simpsons, lost and prison break. And even those i can live without!!!!

So, i wouldent say Sky One is as good as everyone go's on about!!

Think virgin media might be getting Sky One back anyway..

-- Edit

Just got off the phone to VM and i asked if they are bringing back Sky One. They said that they arnt sure at the moment as they are still discussing the matter with Sky, and if they are.. They will let everyone know.

Sky One is pretty bad if you take a good look at it. Very few new programs on it these days, that's why they've been poaching from the terrestrial channels recently. The Unit is a good program, although I've seen it all already hehe

Yer, i dont mind virgin media TV even if it doesent have Sky One, but i suppose it would be better if we did have Sky One.

Think Virgin Media might be bringing it back anyway.
